Ning Zhеng wаtсhеd from the sidеlinеs, lаughing sо hаrd tears cаmе to his eуes. Hе сrоuсhеd dоwn and pullеd Wù Dàndàn over, saying, "Dàndàn, right? Call mе 'Dаddy,' аnd I'll buy уоu аnоther саr mоdеl, hоw abоut that?"
Wù Dàndàn cheеrеd and withоut hesitation shоuted "Daddу" at Ning Zheng. "I wаnt thаt уеllоw Вumblеbee, thе оne thаt саn turn into а Trаnsfоrmer."
Thаt оne wаsn’t cheaр either.
Wu Mаngmаng fоrciblу pulled Wù Dàndàn baсk аnd hаnded thе саr mоdеl in his hаnd to Lu Sui. "I’m sоrrу, Mr. Lu, this is tоo vаluable. Dàndàn сan’t ассeрt it."
Lu Sui didn’t rеасh out to takе it back, just looked аt Wu Mangmang withоut saying а word.
Wu Маngmang knеw that this car model was nothing to Lu Sui—he probably wouldn’t even bend down to pick up a stack of money if he dropped it on the road—but she felt she couldn’t teach a child this way.
Seeing that Lu Sui wouldn’t take it back, Wu Mangmang simply placed the item on a nearby shelf, picked up Wù Dàndàn, and started walking out.
Even though Wù Dàndàn was only a few years old, when he threw a tantrum, Wu Mangmang could hardly hold him.
The child’s voice was high-pitched, and when he cried, it sounded like firecrackers going off. In the end, he even sat on the floor, refusing to get up and threatening to roll around.
Wu Mangmang’s pretty face turned pale with anger. She had no way to handle Wù Dàndàn; every time she approached, he pushed her away, shouting, "Don’t want you, don’t want you!"
Wu Mangmang could only step aside and call Ms. Liu, rattling off the situation in rapid succession. "Mom, that car model is too expensive. We absolutely cannot accept it from someone else."
"Then just buy it for him," Ms. Liu said, always generous with her son.
Wu Mangmang felt a pang of bitterness—one car model cost as much as two months of her current allowance. "I don’t have that much money."
"You buy it for him, and I’ll pay off your card," Ms. Liu said straightforwardly.
But Wu Mangmang was a responsible older sister. "Mom, can’t you stop raising kids like this? Dàndàn is still so young. Just because he cries and throws a tantrum, you give him whatever he wants. What will happen when he grows up? If he kills someone someday, will you hand him the knife?"
Ms. Liu retorted, "What nonsense are you talking? All kids are like this. You were the same way when you were little, and I don’t see you killing anyone."
"How could I be like him?" Wu Mangmang protested.
Ms. Liu said, "Hah, you were way more stubborn than Wù Dàndàn back then. If you didn’t get what you wanted, you’d cry and fuss all day. Do you think your Barbie dolls were cheap? Back then, you insisted on having that antique doll no matter what—it cost over three hundred thousand. Your dad and I gritted our teeth and bought it for you anyway."
Wu Mangmang thought about it and vaguely remembered such a doll. "Well, I had good taste. That doll has appreciated in value since then. Wù Dàndàn’s cheap car model will only depreciate, with no chance of appreciation."
"It will appreciate," Lu Sui said, appearing behind Wu Mangmang at some point, with Wù Dàndàn in his arms.
Though Wù Dàndàn’s eyes were red, he had stopped crying.
"Who’s talking?" Ms. Liu asked.
Wu Mangmang glanced at Lu Sui, quickly covered the phone, and nodded apologetically at him before stepping aside and whispering, "No one."
Ms. Liu wasn’t so easily fooled. "A car model that expensive—who would have nothing better to do than give it to Wù Dàndàn? Wu Mangmang, you better tell me the truth."
Ms. Liu would have made a great detective.
Wasn’t Lu Sui exactly the type to have nothing better to do, throwing money around everywhere?"It's Lu Sui," Wu Mangmang didn't hide it from Ms. Liu. "We just happened to run into him. Wù Dàndàn rushed over and called him daddy, all for the car model in his hand. It's so embarrassing! How have you been teaching this kid?"
"Haha, hahaha." Ms. Liu laughed hysterically on the other end of the phone. "That's great, this is just too perfect! Thank Mr. Lu for me. Take the gift, and if there's a chance later, let Wù Dàndàn recognize Mr. Lu as his godfather. That would be even better."
Ms. Liu truly lived up to her reputation as a business elite. Her thick skin—Wu Mangmang finally found the source of her genetic inheritance.
"I'm not talking to you anymore," Wu Mangmang decisively hung up and finally stepped out from behind the shelves.
As soon as she walked out, Ms. Liu called again, demanding to speak with Wù Dàndàn.
Wu Mangmang had no choice but to hand the phone to Wù Dàndàn, then turned to Lu Sui and Ning Zheng and said, "Mr. Lu, Mr. Ning, I'm really sorry for today, wasting your time. Dàndàn can be a bit mischievous. My apologies."
"Not at all, he's adorable," Lu Sui replied.
Ning Zheng immediately chimed in.
Adorable, my foot! More like terrifying! Wu Mangmang thought to herself.
"This car model is a limited edition produced in collaboration with the original manufacturer. All parts are made to resemble the real vehicle. It holds its value very well. Your brother has good taste," Lu Sui explained.
Wu Mangmang let out an "oh," forcing a smile as she said, "Mr. Lu also has good taste."
After just two sentences, Wù Dàndàn ended the call, returned the phone to Wu Mangmang, and took the bag containing the car model from Lu Sui's hand, sweetly saying, "Thank you, Godfather."
He treated Ning Zheng the same way. "Thank you, Godfather."
The little boy carrying two large bags looked utterly ridiculous. Wù Dàndàn even gave Wu Mangmang a grown-up look before turning back to Lu Sui and Ning Zheng and saying, "Sorry, I lied to you earlier. Mángmáng is my sister. She's actually not that old—not old enough to be my mom."
Wu Mangmang felt like crying again.
Ever since she turned twenty-five, this little brat had been stepping on her sore spots.
Ning Zheng burst out laughing, and even Lu Sui's lips curved into a gentle smile.
Wù Dàndàn pulled Wu Mangmang over to stand in front of Lu Sui and Ning Zheng. "Sis, hurry up and call them Godfather. If you do, they'll buy you gifts too."
OMG, Wu Mangmang choked on her own saliva, wishing she could glue Wù Dàndàn's mouth shut.
Ning Zheng shamelessly laughed out loud, and even Lu Sui wore a rare smile.
Innocent children shouldn't be corrupted, so Wu Mangmang didn't dare explain to Wù Dàndàn that the term "godfather" had other meanings. She could only tactfully say, "Girls can't just go around calling people godfather."
Wù Dàndàn pouted and said very seriously, "But you're not a girl, you're a woman."
What else could Wu Mangmang say? She simply picked up Wù Dàndàn and quickly fled the scene. If she stayed any longer, she was afraid she'd be so angry that smoke would rise from her head and she'd drop dead on the spot.
On the way downstairs, Wu Mangmang pinched Wù Dàndàn's ear and scolded, "You really are something. When have Boss Wu and Ms. Liu ever lacked toys for you? To call someone else daddy just for a car model—aren't you ashamed? Aren't you afraid Boss Wu would be heartbroken if he heard?"Wù Dàndàn, having gotten what he wanted and feeling quite satisfied, calmly rolled his eyes at Wù Mángmáng. "What do you know? I was just testing them for you."
"Testing what?" Wù Mángmáng was puzzled.
Wù Dàndàn spoke with an air of maturity. "You're already so old and still don't have a boyfriend. I thought those two looked decent, so I wanted to test them for you. If they're even willing to accept a burden like me, then they must be sincere about you. You shouldn't keep putting on airs—just hurry up and get married."
Wù Mángmáng didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "You're really something, even knowing the term 'burden.' You must have watched plenty of soap operas with Ms. Liu, huh?"
Wù Dàndàn rolled his eyes at her again.
"I think the one surnamed Lù is better than the one surnamed Níng," Wù Dàndàn concluded with a profound air.
Wù Mángmáng immediately grew curious. "How would you know? You're just a little kid."
"You can't discriminate against me just because I'm young," Wù Dàndàn said indignantly.
"Alright, alright, I won't discriminate. So tell me your reasons," Wù Mángmáng said, not taking him seriously at all. It was probably just because Lù Suí had bought him a model car.
"That guy surnamed Níng wanted me to call him 'Dad,' which clearly means he's after you and trying to take advantage of you," Wù Dàndàn explained.
Wù Mángmáng thought Wù Dàndàn was absolutely brilliant. Was this really just a child?
"Really? You knew he had ulterior motives, and you still called him 'Dad'?" Wù Mángmáng pretended to be angry.
"He took advantage of you, and I took his things—that means I took advantage of him. Doesn't that even things out?" Wù Dàndàn reasoned.
At first glance, it seemed to make sense, but Wù Mángmáng wasn't easily fooled. She gave him a light knock on the head. "He took advantage of me, and you took advantage of him. How does that even things out? I'm still the one at a loss!"
Wù Dàndàn sighed. "Girls shouldn't be so crude."
"I'm a woman. And women are just this crude," Wù Mángmáng retorted stubbornly.
"Now, tell me about the one surnamed Lù," Wù Mángmáng couldn't help but want to know what Lù Suí looked like through a child's eyes.
"He's not bad, quite generous. Even if you two get divorced in the future, he'd still give you alimony," Wù Dàndàn said.
Wù Mángmáng was speechless. "Thanks for the kind words."
After recovering from her shock, Wù Mángmáng couldn't help but sigh. She then felt a bit sorry for Lù Suí and Níng Zhēng. After spending so much money on toys for him, they went from being "Dads" to just "the one surnamed Lù" and "the one surnamed Níng."
Who said children don't understand anything? Kids these days are practically little geniuses.
And their innocence is like a mirror, accurately reflecting what kind of person you truly are.
"Still, you probably don't stand a chance," Wù Dàndàn said, tilting his head up as he looked at her, then slowly lowering it again, shaking his head in disappointment.
"Why don't I stand a chance?" Wù Mángmáng couldn't believe her own brother was looking down on her.
Wù Dàndàn gave her a look that said, "I don't want to crush you, but you're forcing me to say it."
"Go ahead, I can take it," Wù Mángmáng said bravely.
"That guy surnamed Níng—"
Wù Dàndàn was cut off by Wù Mángmáng. "Call him Uncle Níng. You should be polite."
"Uncle Níng kept looking at your chest several times, and he also looked at your legs several times," Wù Dàndàn said, only to be interrupted again by Wù Mángmáng. "Just call him 'the one surnamed Níng.'""You women are so fickle, just like You Zuanzuan in our class," Wù Dàndàn sighed.
"Go on," Wu Mangmang raised an eyebrow, her face clearly saying, "So what if I'm fickle?"
Wù Dàndàn thought to himself, I'll endure it.
Then he continued, "That Uncle Lu never looked at your chest or your legs."
After hearing this, Wu Mangmang thought for a moment and said, "Better just call him 'that guy Lu'."
"Hey, you women are really strange," Wù Dàndàn expressed his confusion. "Do you actually want them to look or not?"
Wu Mangmang replied, "Aren't you supposed to be amazing? Don't you claim to have top-notch intelligence? Then figure it out yourself."
Wù Dàndàn gave Wu Mangmang two words: "Immature!"
"Little brats always try to act like adults," Wu Mangmang shot Wù Dàndàn a disdainful look.
A moment later, Wu Mangmang suddenly realized: Isn't Wù Dàndàn's "sex education" a bit too early?
He actually already knows what it means when men look at women's chests.
A barrage of questions burst from Wu Mangmang: "Dàndàn, how do you know about looking at chests or not? Do you even know what it means? Where did you learn this stuff?"
Wù Dàndàn looked at Wu Mangmang with an expression that said, "You're making a fuss over nothing." "Once, Lu Sensen brought his dad's magazine to our class. It was full of chests."
How on earth did a magazine full of chests end up in the hands of children?
Wu Mangmang decided she would complain when she got back, asking the teacher to inform Lu Sensen's father to properly manage his magazines.
"He already got beaten by his dad, but his dad told him it's normal for men to look at women's chests, and we'll like it too when we grow up," Wù Dàndàn said.
What kind of terrible father is that?!
And do kids even have late-night shows now?
"Dàndàn, you're still too young to be exposed to this kind of thing," Wu Mangmang said seriously.
Wù Dàndàn waved his hand dismissively. "You're such an old fossil."
This was the first time Wu Mangmang had ever been called an old fossil.
"Does Mom know you know about this?" Wu Mangmang quickly pressed, though she didn't particularly like her precious younger brother, she didn't want her only brother to grow up twisted.
"Of course Mom knows. Otherwise, how do you think Dad's secretary quit?" Wù Dàndàn said matter-of-factly.
Wu Mangmang recalled Boss Wu's secretary from her memory—her chest did seem a bit big.
Wu Mangmang rolled her eyes, planning to speak with Ms. Liu privately. She really wasn't comfortable discussing such adult topics with her brother.
But some things still needed to be addressed.
"Dàndàn, it was wrong for you to ask two uncles you don't even know for things today. Do you know that?" Wu Mangmang said. "If you talk about those two uncles like that, they might even say behind your back that you have no manners."
