Almost Lover

Chapter 38

Chapter 36: Compared to Me

"This is the top-scoring lady who helped me break into the top twenty!" Teng Hao announced proudly, waving at Ruan Yu. "Come on in!"

"Hi."

Ruan Yu greeted everyone as she stepped inside.

"From Yangshan University?" Xiao Qing asked.

"Yes."

"Nice to meet you, junior. I'm Xiao Qing."

"Hello, I'm Ruan Yu."

Following Xiao Qing's lead, the other guys introduced themselves one by one. Some were students from Yangshan University, others were from different schools, and a few were already working professionals.

Ruan Yu memorized all their names effortlessly—retaining a dozen or so names was no challenge for her.

While she was surrounded by the group, Teng Yi stood to the side, unscrewing a water bottle as he watched her.

"Our school is full of hidden talents! Who knew there was such a pretty and brilliant girl here?" Zhou Xihe's peach-blossom eyes swept over Ruan Yu, his flirtatious demeanor as obvious as the cologne he wore. "So, little sister, do you have a boyfriend?"

Xiao Qing and the others immediately reached out to smack the back of Zhou Xihe's head in disapproval.

Zhou Xihe just grinned, undeterred, as if determined to get an answer from Ruan Yu.

"Whether I have a boyfriend or not isn't important. What matters is that I know you have a girlfriend," Ruan Yu replied with a faint smile. "Senior Zhou, I forgot to mention earlier—I'm Jian Xiangxiang's roommate. She talks about you a lot in our dorm."

Zhou Xihe's expression stiffened, his brow twitching.

The guys behind him burst into snickers.

After playing with fire for so long, he’d finally gotten burned.

"Oh? What a coincidence," Zhou Xihe said, masking his discomfort as he continued the small talk. "So, what does Xiangxiang say about me in the dorm?"

"She says you're very good to her, that you're loyal—completely unlike other guys who can't resist flirting around."

The entire practice room erupted in laughter, even Teng Yi joining in.

Who would’ve thought this seemingly gentle girl had such a sharp tongue? Zhou Xihe, who was used to teasing girls, had finally met his match today.

"My Xiangxiang really knows me well," Zhou Xihe said shamelessly. "That’s just the kind of guy I am."

Suppressing the urge to roll her eyes, Ruan Yu was still thinking of a response when Teng Yi suddenly threw his empty water bottle at Zhou Xihe.

"Got nothing better to do? Go practice."

Zhou Xihe caught the bottle effortlessly, tossed it into the trash, and patted Ruan Yu’s shoulder. "We’ll talk later, Ruan-mei," he said, clearly reluctant to let it go.

The group dispersed, pairing off and heading to other practice rooms.

Soon, only Ruan Yu and the Teng brothers remained in the spacious studio.

She recalled how Teng Hao had danced earlier.

"Didn’t expect you to have some skills," Ruan Yu said, giving Teng Hao a thumbs-up.

"Of course. True talent doesn’t show off," Teng Hao replied with a grin.

"You think he dances well?" Teng Yi suddenly asked, his tone serious.

Ruan Yu sensed something off but nodded anyway.

"Well, I’m just an amateur. I can’t really judge, but it looked... impressive."Teng Hao's vanity was greatly satisfied, and he happily winked at Teng Yi, who ignored him and continued to look at Ruan Yu.

"What about me?" he asked.

"Hmm?" Ruan Yu didn't understand.

"Compared to me?" Teng Yi pointed at Teng Hao, his lips curling slightly without a trace of emotion. "Still impressive?"
