Atun is an "Asian Hunting Leopard." During the Tang Dynasty, the imperial nobility greatly enjoyed taming these leopards for hunting purposes. Clear images of them can be seen in the murals of Crown Prince Zhanghuai's tomb and among some burial figurines. Most of these Hunting Leopards were imported from the Western Regions and could not be bred in the Central Plains. Replicas of the murals from Crown Prince Zhanghuai's tomb can be viewed on the author's Weibo.
The "Medicine King Sun Zhenren" mentioned in the text undoubtedly refers to Sun Simiao, and the medical book he vowed to compile is the famous Qian Jin Fang ( Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold ). At that time, it was likely the first edition, Beiji Qian Jin Yao Fang ( Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold for Emergencies ). In the extant version of this thirty-volume medical text, after the general medical theory, the sections on women's prescriptions and pediatric prescriptions are indeed placed at the forefront, along with the warning: "Women's illnesses are ten times more difficult to treat than men's." Given the social environment of the time, this was already quite remarkable. Therefore, the lengthy related passages in this chapter were initially deleted during revisions but were later reinstated as a tribute to Sun Yaowang.
