Li Tai's family tomb complex in Yun County, Hubei, was excavated in modern times, revealing the epitaphs of Li Tai, his wife Yan Wan, and their two sons, Li Xin and Li Hui. From these, it is known that around the sixth year of the Zhenguan era, when Li Tai was about 13, he fathered his eldest son, Li Xin, with a servant girl. His principal wife, Yan Wan, was the daughter of the great engineer Yan Lide (niece of the renowned painter Yan Liben) and was only eleven when she married him. Li Xin was later taken into the palace and raised by Empress Zhangsun.
