The Immortal Ascension

Chapter 89 : Spear and Shield

Chapter 89: Spear and Shield

Han Li glanced back at Sect Leader Wang, noticing Wang Juechu's gloomy expression as he whispered to three unfamiliar men with weathered faces beside him. They seemed equally troubled by the golden light enveloping the dwarf.

Golden Light Senior's eerie laughter rang out again. Tipping his head back arrogantly, he snorted and declared, "This Senior will stand right here and let you attack freely. If any of you can break my Indestructible Golden Body Technique, I might just spare your miserable lives!" His mocking laughter followed, dripping with contempt.

His words enraged the Seven Mysteries Sect disciples, who had initially been wary of the golden barrier. Several skilled martial artists immediately stepped forward, eager to charge at the dwarf, but Sect Leader Wang stopped them with a raised hand.

Wang Juechu gestured for the Protector still on the field to retreat, then murmured something to the burly man among the three beside him. The man nodded and strode forward confidently, stopping right in front of the dwarf.

The dwarf glared at the bearded man before him, a flash of malice in his eyes.

Due to his congenital deformity, he had been ridiculed since childhood, fostering a deep hatred for tall, imposing figures—precisely like the man standing before him. He was already contemplating the cruelest methods to torment him.

This bare-chested man was one of Wang Juechu's three Junior Martial Uncles. Despite his rugged appearance, he was no brute—his actual age surpassed sixty. As a once-renowned warrior of the Seven Mysteries Sect, he had slain countless enemies. Facing this strange golden barrier, he naturally wouldn’t act recklessly.

After scrutinizing the golden light and the figure within, the man grinned and flicked the barrier lightly with two fingers, producing a clear clang .

This casual provocation infuriated Golden Light Senior, who hissed, "You reckless fool! Do you wish for this immortal to send you to your next life early?"

Unfazed, the bearded man stepped sideways, circling to the dwarf’s flank, then pivoted behind him in a flash.

Like this, he began orbiting Golden Light Senior, his strides widening and his speed increasing until his figure blurred into an indistinct whirl.

Dizzy from the relentless circling, Golden Light Senior's rage boiled over. Without thinking, he reached into his robe, as if retrieving something.

The bearded man, still circling, caught the movement.

Suddenly, he let out a thunderous roar—a sound like a dragon's cry or a tiger's roar—resonating powerfully across Sunset Peak. The sheer force made everyone's ears ring and even caused nearby leaves to tremble.

Golden Light Senior, stunned by the sound, found his limbs momentarily paralyzed, his hand frozen inside his robe.

Then, crisp cracks erupted from the bearded man's joints—sharp, rapid, and growing louder until they drowned out even the roar, exploding like firecrackers in an instant. The burly man finally came to a halt in front of the dwarf, his whistling and the cracking sounds from his joints ceasing abruptly.

Only then did the dazed onlookers realize that the man's body had inexplicably expanded to more than twice its original size. The muscles on his chest and arms bulged prominently, appearing as dark and gleaming as cast iron. Compared to the dwarf, he now seemed like a towering giant.

Golden Light Senior, having caught his breath, finally retrieved a long, black wooden box from his robe. The box was covered with a talisman paper, seemingly sealing whatever was inside.

Before the dwarf could tear off the talisman, the colossal man extended a palm as large as a fan and delivered a forceful punch to the golden barrier. The impact caused the golden light to ripple and distort violently, making the dwarf stagger uncontrollably and preventing him from safely removing the talisman.

Golden Light Senior was inwardly alarmed. He knew full well the power of his golden barrier, yet this man could deform it with a single strike—what immense Divine Power must he possess? Any trace of contempt in his heart vanished instantly, and his fingers worked even faster to tear off the talisman.

With a rip , the talisman was finally torn away.

Just as a hint of triumph appeared on Golden Light Senior's face, a relentless barrage of thuds erupted against the barrier. His body swayed violently under the impacts until he could no longer stand and collapsed onto the ground.

Only then did he notice that the man opposite him had launched a frenzied assault on the barrier, using both fists and feet. The protective shield around him was being kneaded like dough, warping and distorting with each strike. Under the relentless onslaught, the golden light seemed on the verge of shattering at any moment.

Witnessing this, Golden Light Senior's expression changed drastically. Any pretense of an immortal master's composure was lost as he frantically began reciting incantations and forming hand seals. Unfortunately, his panic led to repeated mistakes, rendering his efforts futile—the black box remained utterly motionless.

Jia Tianlong, watching from behind, was stunned.

On one hand, he was speechless at Golden Light Senior's ineptitude; on the other, he was awed by the martial prowess of Wang Juechu, his Junior Martial Uncle. He had personally tested the power of Golden Light Senior's barrier before—it was truly impervious to blades and spears, immune to fire and water, as unyielding as diamond. Yet now, this very barrier trembled under the man's fists and feet, bending and warping at will.

It was unbelievable—this man's skills were unfathomably profound!

The thought that there were two other experts of similar caliber on the opposing side made Jia Tianlong feel a twinge of regret for rashly agreeing to this deathmatch. Only now did he understand why the other side had been so confident in demanding it. With three monstrously powerful fighters as their backing, he too would have eagerly insisted on a bloodbath.

With this in mind, Jia Tianlong glanced at the dwarf, who was clearly at a disadvantage. He began considering whether he should send someone to assist this so-called immortal master—lest the man meet his end without even getting the chance to unleash his signature Flying Sword technique.
