Chapter 83 : The Great Trap

Chapter 83 The Great Trap

"Are you truly planning to surrender?" Jia Tianlong felt somewhat surprised.

"Surrender is surrender, but who surrenders to whom between our two sides remains to be seen!" Sect Leader Wang narrowed his eyes slightly, casually resting his hand on the hilt of his sword as he spoke slowly.

"What do you mean by that?" Jia Tianlong's expression darkened. With a wave of his hand, he signaled for an encirclement.

Instantly, the Iron Guards behind him surged forward, forming a semicircle around Wang Juechu. Simultaneously, they drew crossbows from their backs, aiming the gleaming arrowheads directly at him.

It seemed that with just one command from Jia Tianlong, they would not hesitate to unleash a volley of bolts, killing Wang Juechu on the spot.

"Do you think that after relocating our sect's headquarters to Sunset Peak, we never once considered the possibility of an enemy invasion we couldn't withstand?" Sect Leader Wang ignored the crossbows entirely, his tone carrying a sinister threat.

Hearing this, Jia Tianlong's heart sank slightly, and an ominous premonition flickered in his mind. He didn't interrupt but continued to listen with a grim expression, wanting to hear what the other had to say.

"It was the seventh-generation Sect Leader Li who moved our sect here. Not only was he a man of great vision, but he was also skilled in the arts of engineering and mechanisms—truly a genius of his time." At this point, Sect Leader Wang paused briefly, his face showing a hint of admiration.

He then continued,

"Sect Leader Li chose Sunset Peak as our headquarters for two reasons. First, the peak's treacherous terrain makes it easy to defend and hard to attack—an ideal stronghold. Second, within the mountain's belly lies another world: a massive, naturally formed stalactite cave. This cave is incredibly vast, occupying nearly two-thirds of Sunset Peak's interior. Upon seeing this marvel, Sect Leader Li conceived a plan. Using his engineering skills and the cave's natural layout, he transformed the entire mountain into a colossal, natural trap. Now, as long as someone activates the pre-set mechanisms, the entire peak will immediately collapse, burying everyone on it."

After finishing his words, Sect Leader Wang fell silent, sweeping his icy, death-like gaze over the sea of dark figures before him.

Jia Tianlong was momentarily stunned. Naturally, he didn't believe these claims, but for the moment, he couldn't think of how to counter the threat.

Meanwhile, others on the peak who had heard these words couldn't help but stir uneasily. They whispered among themselves, and some of the quicker-witted ones even began edging toward the only path down the mountain, ready to flee at the first sign of trouble.

"Silence! Anyone who moves or makes noise will be executed without mercy!"

Jia Tianlong quickly regained his composure. Seeing his own forces thrown into disarray by mere words, he grew furious. Knowing that the situation would spiral out of control if not immediately quelled, he instinctively barked out the harsh order.

His trusted subordinates efficiently carried out his command. After executing several timid individuals who had attempted to flee, the rest were thoroughly intimidated, and the unrest subsided. However, Jia Tianlong was well aware that this calm was only superficial and temporary. If he couldn't quickly prove the other party's words to be lies, neither his own gang members nor those from other gangs would stay here peacefully. At the slightest sign of trouble, they would likely all flee in panic.

"You don't expect us to believe your words based solely on your mouth, do you?" Jia Tianlong suppressed his anger, preparing to personally expose the other party's deceit.

"Of course not. I have plenty of evidence for you to see with your own eyes. But listen carefully—if anyone tries to flee or continues their attack after witnessing my proof, I will order all the mechanisms activated, ensuring we all perish together." Wang Juechu's words were filled with killing intent, his threat unmistakable.

Jia Tianlong scrutinized the other's expression, trying to find any flaws. Unfortunately, the man's face remained cold and unreadable, showing no signs of guilt or hesitation. This made Jia Tianlong wonder—could the other's words actually be true? Was there really such a deadly trap?

"Activate the second mechanism!" Wang Juechu suddenly turned his head and loudly commanded toward the main hall. Then, he turned away, fixing his gaze on a smaller stone hall and ignoring Jia Tianlong completely.

Furious at being treated with such contempt, Jia Tianlong suppressed his anger and silently vowed that if the other's evidence failed to satisfy him, he would immediately order his men to turn this Sect Leader Wang into a human pincushion right where he stood.

However, Wang Juechu's strange fixation on the stone hall also caught the attention of the Wild Wolf Gang members. Their gazes involuntarily shifted to the same spot, curious about what extraordinary event might occur.

As the Wild Wolf Gang members waited uneasily, no one noticed two figures in Broken Water Stream attire standing at the edge of the dark crowd, heads bowed and whispering to each other.

"Han Li, do you think our sect leader is telling the truth? Could Sunset Peak really be hollow? I've been here several times before and never noticed anything unusual!"

"Could Sect Leader Wang be deceiving them to buy time?"

"Or..."

One young man bombarded the other, who remained silent, seemingly desperate for an explanation to ease his doubts.

These two were none other than Han Li and Li Feiyu, who had originally been heading to Elder Li's residence.
