Chapter 68 : Poisoned

Chapter 68: Poisoned

As for the other spell, the "Heavenly Eye Technique," Han Li had high expectations after witnessing the extraordinary nature of the "Fireball Spell."

However, after actually casting it, Han Li realized that this spell was merely a minor trick of channeling magic power into the eyes. It was utterly simple to master, with no difficulty whatsoever.

Yet, its utility matched its simplicity—it was purely an auxiliary spell used to observe whether a person possessed magic power and to gauge its depth.

Initially, Han Li was quite enthusiastic about it. He repeatedly cast the "Heavenly Eye Technique" on his own eyes and then used them to examine his body. He saw a faint white glow enveloping him, growing denser the closer it was to his Dantian.

This, it seemed, was the so-called magic power. Han Li reached out to touch the glow but felt nothing. Evidently, like True Qi, magic power was formless and intangible, only observable under the "Heavenly Eye Technique."

After using it several times in a row, however, Han Li completely lost interest.

After all, within the entire Seven Mysteries Sect, he was the only one who could be considered half a Cultivator. Who else could he use the "Heavenly Eye Technique" on? He couldn’t just narcissistically stare at himself all day!

Thus, aside from continuing to practice the "Fireball Spell" diligently—hoping to master it for practical combat—Han Li shifted his focus to the other spells he had yet to learn. He began repeating their exercises bit by bit, hoping to achieve another breakthrough.

Thinking about the difficulty of mastering those other spells, Han Li, who had just regained a bit of stamina, couldn’t help but sigh again. He realized that ever since he started practicing spells, the number of times he sighed had increased dramatically.

Dong—dong—

A deep tolling of a bell echoed from outside the valley.

Han Li frowned. Recently, for some reason, the number of people seeking medical treatment had suddenly surged, most of them suffering from severed limbs, saber wounds, or sword injuries.

Not daring to delay—knowing that saving lives was as urgent as putting out a fire—he grabbed his pre-prepared medical kit and rushed out of the house, heading straight for the valley entrance.

At the edge of the forest outside the valley, Han Li spotted a high-ranking disciple in brocade robes pacing anxiously beneath the bell, as restless as an ant on a hot pan.

The moment the disciple saw Han Li, his face lit up with relief, and he hurried over.

"Physician Han, you’re finally here! My master has been poisoned and is on the verge of death. Please hurry and see if you can cure him!"

As the man approached, Han Li recognized him—he was Ma Rong, the prized disciple of Elder Li, the fifth-ranked elder in the sect. He had accompanied Elder Li to the Valley of Divine Hands a few times to meet Han Li, so they were somewhat acquainted.

"Poisoned?" Han Li followed the man hurriedly while inwardly grumbling about his own bad luck. He still hadn’t resolved the poison in his own body, after all.

"Yes. While handling affairs outside the mountain, my master clashed with an expert from the Wild Wolf Gang. He was careless and got hit by one of their Dark Cyan Pellets. At first, he didn’t think much of it—he even killed the opponent. But who knew that as soon as he returned to the mountain, the poison flared up, and he fell unconscious."

"Have you consulted any other physicians?""Of course we've consulted others. If it were just ordinary poisoning, I wouldn't have troubled Divine Doctor Han. Those quacks only knew my master was poisoned by something uncommon and nothing more—they didn't even dare prescribe any medicine." Ma Rong's face was full of disdain as he spoke, clearly dissatisfied with the other physicians.

Han Li listened without changing his expression, merely giving a noncommittal "Hmm" before focusing on the journey ahead. But inwardly, he was somewhat uneasy.

To be honest, he wasn't particularly skilled in detoxification. When it came to treating internal or external injuries, he had some confidence thanks to a few effective medicines. But if it were some rare and potent poison, he had no certainty.

True, he possessed a miraculous antidote called "Clear Spirit Powder" that could neutralize hundreds of toxins. However, the world was full of countless poisonous substances—who knew if this antidote would work against this particular poison? Moreover, the other physicians on the mountain weren't useless fools either. They had their own unique methods for dealing with common Jianghu ailments like poisoning and injuries. Otherwise, the higher-ups in the sect would have long kicked them out. These men valued their own lives too much to keep incompetents around.

Yet now, they hadn't even dared to prescribe anything, which suggested this poison was truly troublesome—far from ordinary. Han Li could only improvise and adapt as he went. Even if he couldn't cure it, it wouldn't ruin his reputation. After all, no divine doctor could truly cure all diseases, and it wouldn't significantly affect his standing within the sect.

As Han Li carefully pondered his approach, Ma Rong practically half-dragged him along, gripping his sleeve tightly as they hurried toward Elder Li's residence at a near-jog.

Seeing how frantic Ma Rong was, Han Li realized just how deep the bond between master and disciple ran.

A pang of melancholy struck Han Li as he thought of his own relationship with Doctor Mo—nominally that of master and disciple, but in truth, they had been adversaries. If only they could have shared the same harmony as Ma Rong and his master.

Deep down, Han Li still held a measure of respect for Doctor Mo. After all, his own considerable medical skills and the Eternal Spring Art had been passed down from him.

But fate had played a cruel trick, decreeing that the two of them could not coexist in this world. In the end, they had clashed, leading to Doctor Mo's accidental death at Han Li's hands.

Lost in these thoughts, Han Li sighed inwardly at the memories stirred by the scene before him. By then, Ma Rong had already led him to Elder Li's residence.
