The Immortal Ascension

Chapter 55 : The Third Person

Chapter 55: The Third Person

"Your mind is too restless. If it were free to wander, it would give me a headache," Doctor Mo said calmly, without any urgency. Then, he extended an arm and effortlessly lifted Han Li, stepping out of the room.

Outside, the scorching sun was still intense. Han Li felt as though he had been inside the room for a long time, but in reality, only a brief moment had passed.

Doctor Mo carried Han Li as if he were a mere object, casually walking through the medicinal garden beside the house and arriving at a remote stone wall. The giant man followed silently behind, like a shadow, never leaving his side.

Through his eyes, Han Li clearly saw that in front of him, a stone house had been built at some point—a structure he had never seen before. This stone house resembled the meditation chamber Han Li had used in the past, entirely constructed from stone. The only difference was that the outer walls had been simply whitewashed with lime.

Judging by the materials used, although the construction was rough, it was evident that the house had been completed not long ago. If Han Li still had his sense of smell, he would likely have detected the pungent odor of lime.

"Iron Slave, stay outside. If any stranger approaches this house, kill them without hesitation," Doctor Mo issued a bloody command, clearly fearing that an unexpected event might ruin his plans.

The stone door was easily pushed open, and without hesitation, Doctor Mo walked in, naturally closing the door behind him. It seemed that this room was not unfamiliar to him; most likely, he had built it himself.

The stone house was completely enclosed, with no windows. After the door was closed, Han Li expected the interior to be pitch dark, with nothing visible. However, what he saw was a room filled with various oil lamps and candles of different thicknesses. The small space was brilliantly illuminated, as bright as daylight.

The scene inside left Han Li speechless. Of course, even if he had questions or wanted to speak, he couldn't do so.

But none of that mattered. What made Han Li most uneasy was a strange pattern, several meters in diameter, drawn in the center of the stone house. The pattern seemed to have been created using some kind of powder, though Han Li couldn't get close enough to examine it and thus couldn't determine what it was.

Around the edges of the pattern, several fist-sized pieces of green jade had been embedded. The jade, translucent under the candlelight, was clearly a rare treasure. If an expert who appreciated such things saw such high-quality raw jade being wasted on a stone floor, they would likely lose sleep over it for several nights.

Han Li, still trapped within his body, was lost in thought when he suddenly heard a "thud." His body was thrown into the center of the pattern, lying on his back on the ground, with only the ceiling in view.

Han Li felt a sense of urgency. At such a critical moment, he couldn't see Doctor Mo's every move, which made it impossible for him to feel at ease. But he was at the mercy of others, and there was nothing he could do. He could only console himself with the thought that at least he wasn't face down; otherwise, he wouldn't even be able to see the ceiling.

"Thud," "thud," "thud"...A series of strange sounds rang out, and Han Li felt a bit puzzled. But he soon noticed that the light had dimmed significantly, and he realized that Doctor Mo had extinguished many of the lamps.

However, he couldn't fathom the deeper meaning behind this action.

After a moment, Doctor Mo suddenly spoke.

"Are you sure the method you mentioned will work? You must understand, I've staked everything on this." His voice was icy cold.

Han Li was utterly confused. Was Doctor Mo speaking to him? But the tone didn't seem to match. Yet, aside from the two of them, there was no one else in the stone room. Or had Doctor Mo already forgotten that Han Li was still stuck with that damned yellow paper, unable to speak?

"Absolutely no problem. Have the 'Seven Ghosts Soul Devouring Technique' and the 'Spirit Stabilizing Talisman' I taught you before ever been false?" A strange man's voice suddenly echoed in the room. Judging by the voice, he seemed quite young, perhaps in his twenties.

Han Li was numb. The strange events he had experienced today far surpassed anything he had heard of in the past few years. At this point, another sudden voice didn't seem all that extraordinary.

"Hmph! Even if it worked before, it's useless now."

Doctor Mo's use of vulgar language surprised Han Li. In the past, this wouldn't have been a big deal. But now, seeing Doctor Mo's handsome appearance while spouting such crude words, Han Li couldn't help but find some dark humor in it.

"If you deliberately hold back at the final moment, trapping me in a scheme, who would I turn to then?"

Before the young man could respond, Doctor Mo continued on his own:

"Don't say you'll vouch for it. You should already be a dead man, and I was the one who killed you. Can you really have no resentment? Wouldn't you secretly deceive me?"

Doctor Mo's relentless questioning left no room for rebuttal, as if he was venting all his inner unease.

After that, aside from Doctor Mo's heavy breathing, there was a long period of silence.

For a while, there was no response from the young man.

Hearing these words, Han Li couldn't help but feel a chill. This suddenly appearing young man had actually died once before. Could he be a ghost? Moreover, from their conversation, it seemed that the strange technique Doctor Mo had just used was obtained from this person.

"So what do you want me to do? I've already sworn on my ancestors, parents, family, and even my entire clan. Isn't that enough to satisfy you?" The young man finally spoke, his voice filled with indignation.

Han Li's heart skipped a beat. This young man was so deranged that he would use so many of his closest relatives to make a vow, just to gain Doctor Mo's trust. It was clear he was a cold-hearted individual. Any trace of sympathy Han Li had felt for him, born from their shared plight, instantly vanished.

"True, there's nothing I can do to you. Your body is already destroyed, and now only your Primordial Spirit remains here, unable to see the light of day. Compared to complete annihilation, it's not much better." Doctor Mo's tone softened, clearly not wanting to escalate the conflict.
