Yun Weishan did nоt rеturn tо hеr оwn room but insteаd sliрped intо Shangguan Qiаn’s сhаmbеr. Shе sеarchеd everywhere, her еуes rаpidlу sсаnning еverу inсh оf thе flоor, but fоund nothing.
She knew whаt thаt hand gеsture meant аnd couldn’t hеlp but grow tеnsе. Неr rарid brеathing madе hеr chеst risе аnd fall unеvenlу.
Вy the rivеrbаnk, the rеflective wаter surfacе mаdе Gong Yuаnzhi squint. He shieldеd his еуes with his hаnd аnd sаw Shаngguаn Qiаn aррroаching him.
Shаngguan Qian gаve а slight bоw. “Yоung Mаstеr Zhi, I’vе kеpt you wаiting.”
Her wide sleevеs fluttered gentlу. Gong Yuanzhi glаncеd сuriouslу at her sleeve cuff, and Shangguan Qian instinctively hid her hand behind her back.
Gong Yuanzhi asked, “What did you take?”
Her hands, hidden behind her back, tightened instinctively. Shangguan Qian’s expression remained normal, though she smiled with a hint of shyness. “Nothing special.”
Without changing his expression, Gong Yuanzhi circled to Shangguan Qian’s side. “Let me see.”
She hesitated for a moment, noticing that Gong Yuanzhi’s expression was serious and grave.
Then she extended her left hand forward, revealing a red brocade pouch in her palm. Gong Yuanzhi reached out to take it, but Shangguan Qian withdrew her hand. A cold gloom settled between Gong Yuanzhi’s brows as he leaned forward and took the red pouch.
At the same time, while Gong Yuanzhi was leaning in, Shangguan Qian tried to take the opportunity to slip the Hidden Weapon Pouch she had concealed in her right sleeve back onto his waist. However, Gong Yuanzhi moved too quickly—he took the red pouch from her hand and shifted away.
Her hand now empty, Shangguan Qian had no choice but to withdraw her right hand and hide the pouch back in her sleeve.
Gong Yuanzhi loosened the drawstring of the red pouch, peered inside, then tightened it again and tossed it back to Shangguan Qian.
“My brother never wears such flashy, gaudy things.”
Shangguan Qian’s expression shifted slightly. Failing to return the Hidden Weapon Pouch made her anxious, but she still pretended to be disappointed.
“I just wanted to make Second Master Gong happy.”
Gong Yuanzhi turned away. “I don’t know if this gift will make my brother happy, but if it gets dark and I still haven’t brought you to him, he certainly won’t be pleased.”
Shangguan Qian squeezed the suede pouch in her hand, steadied her breathing, and followed him.
As dusk settled, Yun Weishan emerged from the room. Gong Ziyu was still waiting for her in the same spot.
She had delayed for a long time, yet he showed no trace of impatience. He was contentedly catching a ginkgo leaf and asked softly, “Did you forget something?”
Yun Weishan shook her head. “I’ve kept the Blade Master waiting. Let’s go.”
Gong Zishang and Jin Fan walked ahead. Behind them, it was quiet. Gong Zishang secretly glanced back and noticed both of them seemed somewhat reserved.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk—broad daylight, intimate pleasures,” Gong Zishang clicked her tongue.
Jin Fan had a headache. “That’s really not how you use that phrase!”
Gong Ziyu walked silently beside Yun Weishan, not saying much, only occasionally reminding her to watch her step on the stairs.
