Сhарtеr 138: Fееding
Shen Du was uttеrlу sрееchless. This wоmаn probаbly hadn’t snарреd оut оf the cаse yet.
Seeing how еngrоssed shе was in hеr thоughts, соmplеtеlу ignоring him, Shеn Du simplу rolled up his slееve аnd extendеd his arm.
Zhu Yan, рaying nо mind tо аnуthing еlsе, tоok it and bit dоwn withоut hesitаtiоn. Оnly whеn she hеаrd a muffled grоаn did she snаp back tо reality.
“Wаs it tаstу?” Shen Du аsked coldlу, his еуes dаrk аnd сhilling.
Zhu Yаn lооked еmbаrrassеd. Staring аt the red tеeth mаrks оn Shеn Du’s arm, shе fоrсеd a grin and quicklу apologized, “S-sоrry, I didn’t mean tо.”
“What werе yоu thinking аbout? Sо lost in thought?” Shen Du asked knowingly, and Zhu Yan answered without concealment, “The case.”
“Don’t think so much while eating. Eat when it’s time to eat, sleep when it’s time to sleep. If everyone were like you, they’d go mad before the case was even solved.”
“Who… who’s mad!”
Zhu Yan grew a little annoyed, but then she glanced down at the wound on Shen Du’s arm and softened her tone. “I just wasn’t careful. Wait here, I’ll go get the first aid kit to bandage your wound.”
Just as she was about to stand up and leave, a large hand suddenly grabbed her wrist.
“No need.” Shen Du’s deep, cold voice reached her ears. Zhu Yan paused. “It’s bitten like this. Don’t you need medicine?”
A meaningful curve lifted the corner of Shen Du’s lips. “If you really want to make it up to me, feed me yourself.”
Zhu Yan’s lips twitched, wondering if she had misheard.
The proud, arrogant Shen Du actually wanted her to feed him? Had he lost his mind?
“Are you joking?” Zhu Yan asked uncertainly, but Shen Du’s gaze directly answered her question.
“Have I ever joked with you?” Shen Du’s words left Zhu Yan speechless.
He was serious.
She glanced again at the wound on his arm. What could she do?
She was the one who bit him, so she had to feed him. Such a request didn’t seem too unreasonable.
Having reasoned this out, Zhu Yan sat down in front of Shen Du, picked up the bowl and chopsticks, and began carefully feeding him.
The curve at the corner of Shen Du’s lips deepened. Zhu Yan fed him one bite, and he ate one. This feeling was somewhat sweet and warm.
However, this situation didn’t last long. After just a few bites, Yun Que suddenly climbed in through the window.
Startling both of them, they turned their gazes toward Yun Que. “Is there no door? Why jump through the window?”
Zhu Yan questioned coldly, placing the bowl and chopsticks on the table.
This woman was far too presumptuous. Living in someone else’s home, she didn’t use the door but climbed through the window instead. It was truly irritating.
“I was in a hurry.”
Yun Que explained as she approached the two. Spotting the bowl of chicken noodle soup on the table, she unceremoniously pulled it toward herself and began devouring it.
Shen Du’s face darkened like the bottom of a pot, and Zhu Yan’s lips trembled uncontrollably.
The food she had worked so hard to prepare—she hadn’t even eaten much of it herself—was now being devoured by this woman. Was there no justice left?
After clearing the food from the table, Yun Que nodded in satisfaction, wiped her mouth, and even let out a burp.
“Full?” Shen Du’s tone carried no kindness, only a hint of coldness."Hmm." Yun Que paid no heed, nodding along, "I'm full. Today's meal didn't seem like it was made by the cook—it had a unique flavor."
"That was me," Zhu Yan practically spat the words through gritted teeth.
After she spoke, Yun Que looked at her with surprise. "The Hall Leader's Wife can cook too? And quite skillfully at that. Once I move into the estate, you can make meals for me every day, alright?"
Zhu Yan's expression darkened further, now utterly convinced that the woman before her had something wrong with her mind.
"Did you come here just to eat?" Zhu Yan asked with clear disdain.
If that was all, then she was ready to show her the door right now.
"Of course not." As she spoke, Yun Que quickly fished out a moth-shaped jade from her bosom and placed it on the table. "I sneaked into the Brocade Workshop at night and found this moth-shaped jade in the ruins. And, you won't believe it, but I even saw a ghostly figure."
"A ghost?" Zhu Yan frowned, turning her gaze toward Shen Du.
Shen Du snorted coldly, looking away. Like Zhu Yan, he didn't believe in ghosts or spirits.
"Yes." Yun Que nodded with firm conviction. "I'm not lying to you. That ghostly figure was terrifying."
Yun Que described it vividly, but neither of them believed her. Shen Du's expression had already darkened to the extreme.
His mood, which had just improved, was instantly doused with cold water—all because this woman had ruined the atmosphere.
Yun Que continued to recount her tale with great animation to Zhu Yan, who was clearly growing impatient, but Yun Que paid no attention.
Shen Du couldn't sit still any longer. Why was this woman so long-winded?
He grabbed Yun Que by the arm and tossed her outside, then shut the door.
Both Yun Que outside and Zhu Yan inside were stunned. What had just happened?
Was he angry?
Surely not over this?
"Are... are you alright?" Zhu Yan cautiously looked at Shen Du.
Shen Du lowered his gaze, thinking for a moment before raising his head to look at her. "Isn't this woman annoying?"
"..." Zhu Yan was speechless. If he already saw it, why did he keep her in the estate?
"Silence means agreement," Shen Du said to himself. Then, clenching his fist, a hint of coldness flickered in his eyes. "She is indeed annoying, but she holds important clues. We must protect her."
He was explaining himself to her, Zhu Yan realized.
With a light chuckle, she sat down beside him. "Are you explaining yourself to me?"
Shen Du raised an eyebrow, looking at the woman before him. "I've noticed you've been acting differently lately."
"Really?" Zhu Yan was baffled, examining herself. "How so? I seem perfectly normal."
Shen Du lowered his gaze slightly, then suddenly leaned forward and pinched Zhu Yan's chin, bringing his face close to hers. His eyes bore directly into her widened almond-shaped eyes.
"You've been getting inexplicably angry lately. Are you jealous?"
Shen Du's words carried a hidden meaning, but Zhu Yan found them utterly perplexing, stirring a flicker of irritation within her.
She brushed his hand away and stood up, forcing herself to appear composed. "Jealous of what? I would never be jealous."
A smile tugged at the corner of Shen Du's lips. This woman couldn't even lie properly—her eyes kept blinking, yet she claimed she wasn't jealous.
Interesting.
"Alright, if you say you're not, then you're not," Shen Du said without further comment, rising to his feet and heading toward the door."What are you going to do?" Zhu Yan quickly asked, as Shen Du, who had reached the doorway, suddenly stopped.
Turning back, he said, "I'm still hungry. Go make me another serving."
Zhu Yan felt like slapping herself. Why on earth had she asked him what he was doing?
At this hour, he still wanted her to cook for him. What a "good person" indeed.
