Coming to Myself

Chapter 67

You Mingxu stood with him, gazing upstairs. Just then, the door opened, and Chen Feng emerged. Spotting You Mingxu, he immediately smiled and said, "Miss You, you're here. Teacher Yin has been waiting for a while." He then nodded to the young man behind her.

The two went upstairs, where Chen Feng told the young man, "Please wait a moment. Teacher Yin will see her first." The young man quickly nodded and replied, "No problem, no problem. Teacher Yin should attend to his matters first. I'll wait here." He smiled at You Mingxu, appearing rather shy and timid.

You Mingxu couldn't be bothered with formalities—there was a big treasure waiting for her inside. She followed Chen Feng in, and the door closed behind them.

The room was astonishingly vast, perhaps over two hundred square meters, with the entire second floor opened up. A long row of floor-to-ceiling windows stretched from the four-meter-high ceiling down to the floor, framing the boundless view of the lake outside. Despite its size, the space felt sparse: aside from a desk, bookshelves, and a few anatomical models on one side, the rest was largely empty. Polished wooden floors gleamed warmly underfoot, while the oversized desk measured three meters long and two meters wide. Bookshelves covered an entire wall, reaching up to the ceiling. The walls were clad in soft, pristine white fabric, adorned with a few paintings. Beyond that, there was nothing else.

You Mingxu stood there, momentarily stunned. She found the study unexpectedly comfortable—spacious and extravagant, yet exuding a quiet warmth.

Was this where Yin Feng used to sit alone, bent over his writing? Where he could lift his head to see rolling green hills outside the window and lower his gaze to pure, silent hues?

"Woo-hoo—" A long, clear cry of delight interrupted You Mingxu's thoughts. Her eyelids twitched almost simultaneously as she watched Yin Feng curled up in a wheeled office chair, sliding past her like a gust of wind.

She had no idea how long he'd been playing like this, but his face was flushed, his eyes sparkling brightly as he "zoomed" by her, radiating pure joy.

Chen Feng stood with lowered head, utterly unfazed.

You Mingxu watched as he frantically stomped his feet to brake just before hitting the wall, then used his hips to drag the chair around. Waddling like a large duck, his big feet slapped the floor as he shuffled back to the starting point.

"A Xu, come play too," he said. "I'll push you."

"Play by yourself," You Mingxu replied, walking slowly toward the desk. She glanced at its surface, then at the towering bookshelves nearby. Many books were worn from frequent use, a testament to their former owner's extensive knowledge.

Failing to capture her attention, Yin Feng's enthusiasm waned. He abandoned the chair and walked over to stand behind her.

Chen Feng's eyebrows lifted slightly: Finally, it's over. With You Mingxu here, everything could indeed be saved.

In the open space beside the desk stood five or six life-sized wooden puppets. At first glance, they could be mistaken for real people. You Mingxu moved closer for a careful look and noticed their body contours, limb structures, and even facial expressions were exquisitely carved and remarkably lifelike—each one was almost a rare treasure. Their joints appeared movable.

"Can I touch them?" she asked.

Yin Feng glanced over and said, "If you like them, I'll give them all to you."

You Mingxu chuckled. "My place isn't big enough for them." She picked up a female puppet's hand and found it could indeed be rotated into different poses. She was studying the mannequins, while Yin Feng showed little interest. Having tired himself out earlier playing the roller-skating game, he crouched down on the spot, resting his chin in his hands, and stared up at her without blinking.

So when You Mingxu inadvertently glanced down, she saw the person at her feet.

You Mingxu found it strange—how could someone with such a rakishly handsome face live every day like a cheerful little sunflower?

She kicked him lightly and said, "Get up. Are you a dog?"

He rose slowly, and You Mingxu continued fiddling with the mannequin. Suddenly, he reached out and hugged her from behind.

You Mingxu stiffened all over. When she looked up, she saw Chen Feng had turned away, pretending to be engrossed in his phone. Yin Feng didn’t take any further liberties; he simply held her, resting his face against the back of her head and nuzzling her hair with his entire face.

You Mingxu snapped in a low voice, "Let go!"

He slowly released her and chuckled softly—even a deaf person could tell the barely contained joy in his heart. Then he immediately put on a serious expression, picked up a mannequin himself, and began studying it intently.

You Mingxu glanced at him a few times out of the corner of her eye before lowering her head to continue examining the doll. Yet, her face grew uncontrollably warm, stirring a wave of frustration and annoyance deep inside. She shot him a fierce glare, but he remained completely oblivious.

After calming herself, You Mingxu asked Chen Feng, "What are these mannequins for?"

Chen Feng replied, "They are artworks in their own right, handmade by a folk artist Teacher Yin befriended. Teacher Yin even sponsored him. Moreover, Teacher Yin said that when writing, there are often action descriptions. Having these mannequins helps him write more vividly and accurately."

You Mingxu roughly understood—these mannequins were essentially models for Yin Feng’s writing. How particular. In a few quick moves, she positioned one mannequin into a fighting stance, then stood opposite it herself, lowering her brows, relaxing her shoulders, tucking in her chest, and raising her fists. "Like this?"

Chen Feng nodded with a smile.

But Yin Feng only felt that even in such a simple pose, this woman’s untamable spirit naturally radiated from her. It struck something in his heart—a feeling both sweet and soft, yet also aching.

He liked her like this.

Yet he also wished she weren’t always like this. He hoped that most of the time, she could be soft and gentle, not needing to protect others, but allowing him to… cherish her.

You Mingxu glanced at him and asked, "What are you spacing out for?"

"I want a reward," he said, his tone suddenly stubborn. "Tonight, I want one reward."

You Mingxu turned her back to him with a calm expression. "No way."

Afterward, Yin Feng and Chen Feng met the young artist waiting by the door. Not wanting to disturb them and having little interest, You Mingxu went to check out the nearby gym.

Following Chen Feng’s instructions, Yin Feng sat upright in the boss’s chair, his face betraying no emotion.

The young man’s eyes lit up with delight upon seeing him. He spoke first, conveying the company colleagues’ concern for him. Yin Feng smiled and nodded, appearing very composed.

The young man then took off the drawing board from his back and showed Yin Feng the latest character design sketches. Yin Feng immediately picked up the board, staring at it intently. The young man glanced at Chen Feng, who gave an almost imperceptible shake of his head.

The young man simply smiled gently and asked, "What do you think of these character designs? If you have any suggestions, I can continue revising them."Even though Yin Feng had lost his memory, one could still see that every painting in his hands was exquisitely detailed and vividly lifelike. Although the paintings were two-dimensional, each character possessed a distinct aura, and one could feel the inner impact emanating from the images.
