Coming to Myself

Chapter 327

The suspect has been identified.

The suspect vehicle has been identified.

The motive for the crime is clear.

The most definite lead at the moment was that van. You Mingxu and the others immediately rushed to the Traffic Command Center. Using Xu Mengshan's parents' home as the center point, they expanded the search outward, looking for that vehicle.

Nowadays, the Sky Eye was everywhere. As long as that vehicle hit the road, it would inevitably leave traces.

But You Mingxu vaguely understood that Yin Chen was probably acting with confidence, unafraid of consequences.

Traffic Command Center.

Xu Mengshan and a colleague sat behind a computer, tracking a route. His eyes were red, his face grim.

You Mingxu sat behind another computer, with Yin Feng beside her.

Yin Chen's trail wasn't hard to find. Soon, they located several traffic cameras on nearby roads that had captured the van. Judging by the timestamps, it was easy to distinguish between before and after the crime. They discovered Yin Chen had come and gone from different directions, so they first continued tracking along the route he took when leaving.

You Mingxu was watching intently when someone suddenly clapped her on the shoulder. She turned and saw Ding Xiongwei.

Yin Feng also saw Ding Xiongwei, smiling slightly and nodding: "Lao Ding."

Ding Xiongwei particularly disliked this about Yin Feng—ever since this guy had turned over a new leaf and cleared his name, he always greeted him with this amiably arrogant attitude, rather like a wolf or tiger strutting into the hall. But now wasn't the time to dwell on that.

Ding Xiongwei glanced at Xu Mengshan not far away and signaled for You Mingxu to follow him outside.

The two walked out of the room. Ding Xiongwei was silent for a moment before saying, "Even if no bodies were left at the scene, Mengshan's parents are probably in grave danger."

How could You Mingxu not know this?

Yin Chen was hiding in the shadows, impossible to guard against. Just as Yin Feng had said, Yin Chen had nothing left now; he was capable of any heinous act.

"What do you need me to do?" You Mingxu asked directly.

Ding Xiongwei gave a bitter smile: "Mengshan is really unlucky. Something like this—experiencing it once in a lifetime is enough for anyone, but he... Keep an eye on him. If something really happens, hold him back, don't let him see it with his own eyes again. No one's heart is made of iron. I don't want to see this kid destroyed."

You Mingxu said, "I understand. I won't let anyone destroy him."

When You Mingxu walked back into the room, she noticed Yin Feng had, at some point, moved to sit behind Xu Mengshan. As she approached, she heard Yin Feng speaking:

"Based on my understanding of Yin Chen, Uncle and Auntie should be safe for now."

When he spoke, Xu Mengshan truly took it to heart. He turned his head, eyes flickering: "Teacher Yin, you're not just comforting me, are you?"

Yin Feng glanced at him: "Why would I comfort you? You're not You Mingxu."

It was a poorly timed joke, but it actually lightened Xu Mengshan's heart a little. He quickly asked, "What do you mean?"

Yin Feng said, "Actually, you know this in your heart too—you're just too emotionally involved to think clearly. When Yin Chen arrived at your home, he still had plenty of time. If he wanted to kill, he would have done it right then. Why go to all the trouble of taking them away? Instead, he specifically brought Xing Jifu's blood and painted graffiti in your home. In other words, he took your parents but left the blood of You Mingxu's biological father. He's not targeting you alone; he has other motives."

As soon as he finished speaking, Yin Feng himself paused slightly.

You Mingxu frowned.

Xu Mengshan fell silent.Yin Feng stood up, ruffled You Mingxu's hair, and walked outside. Just as he was about to call Chen Feng, Chen Feng—always on the same wavelength—called him first.

"We've found traces of Yin Chen!"

...

After listening to his report, Yin Feng said, "Immediately look into something for me."

"New traces found!" a police officer shouted, and everyone gathered around.

After tracking the van's routes near the Xu residence, the further they went, the harder it became to follow because the city was so vast. They had lost Yin Chen's trail for quite some time, but now they had finally found it again.

It was surveillance footage from an intersection.

The timestamp showed around 5:05 PM the previous day, approximately 48 minutes after Yin Chen had left the Xu residence.

A tree-lined road, not particularly wide, with two-way traffic and a steady flow of vehicles. The clean, almost new van was mixed in among the cars. As it approached the intersection, it slowly pulled over to the side of the road.

You Mingxu froze when she saw this scene.

This was...

Xu Mengshan also felt the road looked extremely familiar, as if it were...

The van parked, and it was neatly aligned within a parking spot. Because of the distance, Yin Chen's face was unclear, but there was no doubt it was him. He carried a black backpack and got out of the vehicle.

About 15 minutes later, he returned, got back in the van, and drove away.

"This road is called Luye North Road," the officer who discovered the footage said.

"That's the road outside the side gate of my residential complex," You Mingxu spoke up. All the officers were taken aback. Xu Mengshan, however, jolted in realization and turned to rush out, but the door opened first from the outside. Yin Feng walked in, his gaze sweeping the room before finally settling on You Mingxu. "Yin Chen has been to your home. I have the footage."

Xu Mengshan halted in his tracks.

You Mingxu understood immediately. Ever since Yin Feng moved into her home last year, Chen Feng and his team had installed secure anti-theft nets and surveillance cameras at the entrance and every window, as well as in the living room and both bedrooms. However, when the two of them were home, the indoor cameras could be turned off. When they were away, the cameras would automatically activate.

The video clips were projected onto the large display screen in front of everyone.

The first clip showed the hallway outside You Mingxu's apartment—quiet and empty.

Yin Chen appeared. He was still in the same attire: black clothes, black pants, a baseball cap, and his head lowered.

True to being brothers, the video showed Yin Chen standing at the door, his back to the camera, his hands moving. A moment later, the door opened, and he slipped inside.

He still wasn’t afraid of being caught on camera.

The second clip cut to the living room.

The living room was dimly lit, utterly silent. Yin Chen walked to the center of the room, looked around, and pulled something out of his backpack—what seemed to be a small square box—and placed it on the table.

Then he raised a hand to rub his ear, set down the backpack, and took out a few items.

Two unlabeled, very ordinary water bottles, except they were filled with a red, viscous liquid.

And a toy water gun, with its palm-sized water "magazine" loaded with some kind of dark red liquid.

Then, Yin Chen began methodically splashing the red liquid onto the walls—splotches and streaks, countless red trails slowly dripping down. Soon, the three walls surrounding the table with the small box were completely drenched. After watering with two bottles, he tossed them back into his bag, took out the water gun, and began spraying the wall as if painting. Thus, strings of crimson droplets traversed the terrifying expanse of deep red, like beads of foam churning in a sea of blood.

With one hand tucked in his pocket, the movements of his other hand appeared exceptionally fluid. He gave the impression of being completely at ease, as if strolling leisurely through a courtyard, yet simultaneously exuding an extreme indifference toward life.
