Yin Feng glanced at the several rooms: equipment room, maintenance room, storage room. Without hesitation, he tried each door. The equipment room was locked from the inside and wouldn't open. The maintenance room swung open with a push—just a 10-square-meter space with several locked cabinets and tools piled in the corner. No one was there.
He pushed open the storage room next. It was pitch dark inside, filled with cabinets stacked high with towels, medical uniforms, and several large packages of brand-new medical supplies. After scanning the area, he confirmed it was impossible for anyone to hide there, yet the shadowy figure he'd seen earlier seemed to linger in his mind.
Perhaps they had entered another patient room.
Yin Feng glanced at his watch. Two minutes had already passed. He couldn't afford to delay any longer—he had to catch up with that person. He turned and left immediately.
Returning to the nurses' station, Yin Feng still had his expert credentials. He showed them to the nurse, who immediately understood and said, "There are two police officers guarding room 1553." Yin Feng nodded in thanks and headed toward 1553. Above him, the hospital corridor's surveillance camera was pointed directly at him, but his expression remained calm and unreadable.
The hospital was large and well-equipped—precisely why Li Mingdi had been brought here. Reaching the end of the corridor, Yin Feng turned a corner. The doors on both sides were mostly tightly shut, lights off, with only dim lighting in the hallway.
Room 1553 was just ahead. Two chairs sat outside—one empty, the other occupied by a slouching police officer who appeared to be asleep.
Yin Feng instantly knew something was wrong. He rushed over, first checking the officer's pulse. Fortunately, it was still strong. He noticed a small red mark on the officer's neck—likely from a tranquilizer dart. Guan Jun had no shortage of such tools.
The hospital room door was slightly ajar. Drawing his gun, Yin Feng looked inside and saw, in the flickering light, a figure dressed entirely in black raising a gun and silently firing into the neck of Li Mingdi's father, who had been asleep and snoring by the bedside. Hit by the tranquilizer, the man didn't make a sound, his head slumping further.
The figure holstered the tranquilizer gun, drew another firearm, and quietly attached a silencer before approaching the hospital bed.
Only a dim bedside lamp was on. Li Mingdi's face was clean, and he was sleeping deeply.
The figure slowly raised the gun.
Yin Feng pushed the door open gently, raised his own gun, and stepped inside.
Hearing the movement, the figure froze. Slowly, very slowly, he turned around, revealing a handsome, refined face. But tonight, that face was cold and filled with murderous intent.
Seeing Yin Feng, he showed shock and panic, lowering his gun and murmuring, "Teacher Yin..."
Seeing Chen Feng like this, Yin Feng's mind raced with thoughts. But he also lowered his gun and said coldly, "What are you trying to do?"
Hearing this, Chen Feng's expression hardened again, his gaze complex as if he wanted to speak but hesitated.
Yin Feng stepped forward, grabbed him by the collar, and sneered, whispering harshly, "What's really going on? Don't you understand—if you kill Li Mingdi now, and since you're my man, I'll be implicated beyond redemption. What, are you trying to send me to prison? Or are you scheming something else?"
Chen Feng almost immediately growled in a low voice, "No!"Yin Feng stared at him, but his own face gradually turned deathly pale as he slowly said, "I don't know exactly what happened, nor do I fully understand what you wanted back then. But I know if he doesn't die, you'll really end up in prison!"
Yin Feng's heart sank gradually. It was as if he could see a dark lake spreading beneath his feet, though he had no idea what lurked within its depths. Yet he could already feel a piercing chill.
"What do you mean?" Yin Feng asked slowly. "What exactly are you talking about?"
Chen Feng suddenly looked up at him, tears welling in his eyes for the first time in years. He spoke word by word: "Three years ago, one night, you told me not to follow and left with Su Ziyi."
Yin Feng's heart jolted—he had no memory of this at all.
Chen Feng continued: "I remember it was your alma mater's anniversary celebration. You went to the auditorium to meet your juniors and attended the school banquet. Then you told me to go back first. I saw Su Ziyi get into your car."
Yin Feng searched his memories carefully but found no recollection of anything after the anniversary celebration. He asked softly, "And then?"
Chen Feng closed his eyes briefly before reopening them. "Later I discovered an important contract had been left with me. It needed to be signed and faxed to the Thai publisher that very night. But your phone was unreachable, so I drove after you. I saw you and her drive to the lakeside."
Yin Feng's face showed no expression.
Tears streamed down Chen Feng's cheeks as he said, "I thought it was strange at the time, but figured there was nothing I shouldn't see, so I followed. I saw you both enter that house. The door wasn't locked, so I went inside."
Yin Feng instead let out a cold laugh, his voice terrifyingly icy: "What did you see? Hmm?"
Chen Feng lowered his head. "I went down the stairs and saw you kissing Su Ziyi, with Li Mingdi locked in a chair." He paused before adding, "He had fresh whip marks and blood on him."
Something in Yin Feng's heart seemed to collapse violently.
If Chen Feng had never been to that secret room, he wouldn't have known about the stairs, nor would he have known Li Mingdi had been locked up. There was indeed a whip stained with old blood hanging on the secret room's wall.
Yet he simply couldn't believe what Chen Feng was saying. His voice remained frozen as if soaked in frost: "If I really did those things as you claim, why can't I remember any of it? I hadn't been taken by the Punisher back then—I remember everything before Guizhou clearly, every single incident. Would I not have known what I was doing back then?"
Chen Feng froze.
After speaking, Yin Feng also fell silent.
The atmosphere in the hospital room became terrifyingly stiff. The two faced each other in silence.
Finally, Chen Feng made up his mind and gritted his teeth: "Anyway, he must die. After I kill him, I'll turn myself in. This is my doing—it has nothing to do with you."
Yin Feng said, "Shut up. I don't need anyone dying for me!"
Perhaps their voices had grown too loud, because Li Mingdi on the bed let out a soft groan and slowly opened his eyes.Chen Feng reacted with lightning speed, turning around and pressing his pistol against Li Mingdi's temple. Li Mingdi took in the scene in the hospital room, utterly terrified. Yin Feng stood half a meter from the bed, backlit, his face appearing increasingly shadowy and inscrutable. Suddenly, Li Mingdi began trembling all over, like a stray dog, barely able to utter a coherent word from his throat: "Don't come closer... I beg you... Don't come closer... Stop tormenting me... All of you, stop tormenting me... All goodness is dead, only evil prevails... I submit, I believe! All goodness is dead, only evil prevails..."
