Coming to Myself

Chapter 291

You Mingxu and Yin Feng walked downstairs and discovered that not only was Tuya there, but Guan Jun was also present, both leaning against a car.

Tuya grinned foolishly and called her "Boss Lady," while Guan Jun, smoking a cigarette, lifted his eyelids slightly as a greeting to You Mingxu.

Yin Feng said, "For the next few days, I'll assign Tuya to you. Just focus on your missions—he'll follow you in the car. He's skilled in combat and can watch your back if anything happens."

You Mingxu immediately understood his meaning. With the recent activities of the Apprentice Killer and the Punisher lurking in the shadows, Yin Feng was essentially assigning her a bodyguard.

Come to think of it, You Mingxu had never fought Tuya before. But Tuya had defeated Xu Mengshan. Moreover, his tall and robust physique gave him a natural advantage. If they had someone like Tuya, a strength-based fighter, during the previous encounter with the Butcher Killer, he might have had an edge over You Mingxu and made it easier to subdue the opponent.

You Mingxu asked, "What about you?"

Yin Feng replied, "Guan Jun will be with me."

You Mingxu glanced at Guan Jun's lean figure, and Guan Jun chuckled, saying, "Boss Lady, even though I don't have Tuya's bulk, when it comes to using guns or drugging people, I'm his granddad."

Tuya immediately cursed at him.

You Mingxu said, "Both of them should stay with you. I'll be with Mengshan and the others—we won't act alone."

Yin Feng shot her a glance and said, "No, I prefer having my people keep an eye on you." Tuya and Guan Jun both laughed, and You Mingxu felt her face grow warm at his words. She didn't bother arguing, as she quite liked Tuya anyway.

The four of them drove back to the police station. Tuya and Guan Jun began their watch downstairs that day, while You Mingxu and Yin Feng went upstairs to continue working overtime.

Xu Mengshan and the others had also returned. Just as You Mingxu was about to go find them, Yin Feng said, "I have something to tell you. Let's find a secure place."

You Mingxu was taken aback.

A secure place? Wasn't the entire police station secure?

Suddenly, she recalled the zealous police officer they had once uncovered who had infiltrated the Punisher Organization. Thinking that Yin Feng was concerned about this, she pondered for a moment and decided to take him to the combat training hall downstairs. It was late at night, and no one would be there.

You Mingxu turned on the lights and led Yin Feng to the center of the training hall, ensuring that the open space around them meant no one could overhear their conversation. Of course, she was also being a bit dramatic, teasing Yin Feng intentionally.

You Mingxu sat cross-legged in the middle of the arena, and Yin Feng mimicked her posture. His first words were, "Is this where Jing Ping beat you before he left last time?"

You Mingxu wondered how he knew but didn't dwell on it, thinking to herself that he was just as annoying as ever, asking questions he already knew the answers to and zeroing in on the key points.

She replied, "Yes."

Yin Feng asked again, "What did he say to you?"

You Mingxu looked at him and said, "Is this what you wanted to talk to me about?"

Yin Feng said, "No."

They stared at each other, and Yin Feng spoke first, "Forget it! Hearing it would only make me angry. Let's get to the main issue."

Hearing this, You Mingxu felt a pang of tenderness and reached out to stroke his face, saying, "Why are you angry? I'm right here, not somewhere else."

He gazed at her, then pulled her into his arms. He kissed her fiercely, though his demeanor remained calm. After a while, You Mingxu broke free and said, "Are we going to talk business or not?"Yin Feng wasn’t just kissing her out of jealousy for Jing Ping. After having that dream today and recalling those fragmented memories, he understood that a formidable enemy was lurking nearby. He wasn’t panicked, but a surge of aggression and darkness was rising within him. Just now, he had instinctively sought something from her. And in truth, he had found it. Simply holding that familiar body, breathing in her scent, his restless and cold heart seemed to calm down. He became that steady, sharp man again.

After a moment of contemplation, Yin Feng omitted the details of his torment and told You Mingxu about the scenes he had seen in his dream—or rather, in his memories.

You Mingxu remained silent for a long while.

Yin Feng asked, “What do you think?”

You Mingxu said, “Are you sure it’s someone you know?”

Yin Feng frowned and replied, “He feels familiar to me. After that dream, I remembered—I really did see him in Guizhou. I just can’t recall who he is.”

You Mingxu thought for a moment and said, “Indeed, actually, when Yin Chen suddenly appeared and claimed to be the founder of the Punisher, I found it very abrupt too. It always felt a bit inconsistent with their usual modus operandi. If Yin Chen is just a decoy, then it makes sense. Do you think Yin Chen might have stepped forward himself to settle a personal vendetta against Xing Jifu while also punishing the big fish, Kaiyang Group?”

Yin Feng nodded. “Possibly.”

The two fell silent again for a while before You Mingxu spoke. “Do you still think it could be someone close to us?”

“Yes. I have that feeling. He feels very familiar to me. Even though I can’t remember his face clearly, I distinctly recall the feeling I had when I saw him—shocked, even somewhat distressed. But if I try to dig deeper, my head starts to ache.”

You Mingxu placed her hand on his forehead. “Are you okay?”

Yin Feng’s cool, deep eyes gazed at her. “I’m fine. If you kiss me a few more times tonight, I’ll be fine.”

You Mingxu’s face flushed instantly. She slapped him on the head and said with a cold laugh, “I think your brain is always missing something when you need it. Forgetting this one moment, forgetting that the next.”

Yin Feng replied calmly, “Yeah, if it weren’t for A Xu, I might have gone mad by now.”

You Mingxu was taken aback. Why did his expression and tone seem so serious? Did he really believe that?

“Going mad would be better!” she snapped irritably.

Yin Feng wrapped his arms around her waist. “Even if I go mad, I’ll still have you.”

“Wait a minute.” You Mingxu pushed him away again, thinking, What is this all about? Lately, ever since he returned from Guizhou and they got together, their serious conversations always seemed to veer off track. How did discussing confidential matters at a fighting arena lead to hypotheticals about him going mad and still wanting her?

It was as if whenever the two of them talked, they had an endless stream of things to say.

You Mingxu grew serious and said, “Do you realize what it means if it’s someone close to you?”

Yin Feng remained silent.

You Mingxu said, “The people closest to us are Xu Mengshan, Tuya, Chen Feng, Guan Jun, Xiao Yan, and a few key members of my team.”

Yin Feng added, “And Ding Xiongwei, Jing Ping who went to Yunnan, and Luo Yu who died.”

You Mingxu’s heart jolted, and she blurted out, “I can’t believe any one of them could be that person.”Yin Feng looked at her and said, "My four people, I also completely believe, could not be that person."
