Coming to Myself

Chapter 262

You Mingxu noticed that Yin Feng’s complexion seemed slightly better than it had been earlier in the morning after his first surgery, and there was a bit more color in his face. His entire chest was wrapped in bandages, and a pale, sturdy shoulder peeked out from beneath the blanket. The doctor was explaining the next steps of his treatment plan, and Yin Feng appeared to be listening intently, occasionally asking a few brief questions in a hoarse yet coldly composed voice, still maintaining his aloof and profound demeanor.

But You Mingxu sensed something was off.

She still remembered clearly the way he had looked at her yesterday when he showed up with his team to intercept the Punisher. Even through the crowd, she could see the tenderness, certainty, and resolve in his eyes.

Yet now, she felt… he was somewhat avoiding her?

As soon as You Mingxu entered, Chen Feng also noticed Yin Feng’s unusual behavior. Even if it wasn’t the same as when he was You Yingjun, in the past, every time he saw You Mingxu, his eyes would light up like a peacock spreading its feathers.

However, although Chen Feng was relieved that Yin Feng had woken up, his mood had actually been rather heavy during this time. Sensing Yin Feng’s emotional turmoil, Chen Feng felt he understood the reason. He glanced at You Mingxu and signaled for her to follow him out.

He stepped out of the room.

A moment later, You Mingxu also came out, looking at him with a questioning gaze.

Chen Feng said, “As soon as Teacher Yin woke up, his first question was about you, and his second was about Lao Jiu. Then he fell into a daze for a while. Later, he asked Guan Jun to bring Lao Jiu up so he could see him one last time.”

You Mingxu’s heart sank. She had assumed they would handle Lao Jiu’s funeral arrangements today, but from the sound of it, Guan Jun had kept Lao Jiu with him and even brought him into the hospital room for Yin Feng to see. She had no idea how they managed to avoid the surveillance cameras and the medical staff.

But that was exactly the kind of thing these people would do.

Including Yin Feng. If he hadn’t wanted to see Lao Jiu one last time after waking up, he wouldn’t be himself.

No wonder Yin Feng… seemed emotionally unsettled.

You Mingxu’s heart softened, and she replied, “I understand. I’ll comfort him.”

Chen Feng smiled and said, “With you by his side, we can rest easy. Honestly, no matter what difficulties he faces, as long as you’re there—just a wave of your hand and a little sweetness—our Teacher Yin will pull through.”

You Mingxu shot him a look.

Chen Feng realized he had been too blunt and immediately chuckled, saying, “It seems Teacher Yin will pull through this time. I’ll go handle Lao Jiu’s funeral arrangements—it’s time to lay him to rest. I’ll leave Teacher Yin in your hands.”

“Mm.”

After Chen Feng left, the doctors and nurses soon exited as well. You Mingxu went back in, and though the man clearly noticed her, he remained lying still, his gaze lowered. He was no longer lifeless, but his demeanor was as still and unresponsive as stagnant water.

You Mingxu still felt something was odd. Even considering Lao Jiu’s situation, his attitude toward her felt strange.

But the thought was fleeting, and she didn’t dwell on it. Sitting down on the round stool by the bed, she asked, “How are you feeling?”

Only then did a faint smile touch Yin Feng’s lips as he replied hoarsely, “…Terrible.”

Seeing him like this, You Mingxu’s heart melted completely. She stood up, placed her arms on the hospital bed, leaned down until her face was only half a foot from his, and gazed at him tenderly.

He, in turn, stared back at her without blinking. In those pitch-black, profound eyes, there seemed to be an invisible attraction that made her heart tremble uncontrollably. And he, clearly, felt the same. A pained, sorrowful expression suddenly surfaced on his face. He closed his eyes and said, "Come down."

You Mingxu's heart was still trembling as she slowly drew closer to him. He kept watching her until their faces pressed together and their lips met.

Only then did he open his already misty eyes, gazing deeply at her.

She remained quiet for a moment, holding one of his hands, and said, "Don't be sad. I think deep down, he didn't actually regret it. There will still be me, and others, to keep walking with you."

Yin Feng's eyes reddened. He stayed silent and closed his eyes.

After a long while, he finally let out a soft "Mm."

You Mingxu's heart ached, and she was utterly exhausted. She rested her head by the bed and closed her eyes.

Yin Feng said, "Don't lie like that. Go back to sleep."

You Mingxu replied, "Don't worry about me."

He said, "Then sleep on the sofa."

You Mingxu glanced at the sofa by the bed, let out an "Mm," and asked, "What about you? Do you want something to eat? Need some water?"

Yin Feng answered, "I already ate earlier. No need. I want to sleep a bit more."

You Mingxu went to lie down on the sofa, watching him as she said, "Sleep then. Call me if you need anything. I'll be here with you."

Yin Feng also looked at her and replied, "Okay."

You Mingxu glanced at him twice, then suddenly smiled and closed her eyes. Yin Feng, however, didn't smile. He stared at her, his gaze dark and unclear. Only after a long while did he close his eyes and drift into a heavy, drowsy sleep.

——

When You Mingxu woke again, it was already the next morning.

The sunlight was bright, and both the nurse and Chen Feng were there. She sat up, rubbed her head, and noticed two pairs of eyes fixed on her.

Chen Feng was feeding Yin Feng porridge. Yin Feng lay there, his eyes fixed on her.

You Mingxu got up to go to the bathroom. The thoughtful Chen Feng had already prepared toiletries for her. By the time she came out, she felt refreshed. She took the bowl from Chen Feng and sat down by the bed.

Chen Feng pointed to the bedside table. "There's another breakfast set here."

You Mingxu said, "Thank you."

Chen Feng then left, and not long after, the nurse also departed.

You Mingxu fed Yin Feng spoonful by spoonful. He remained silent, cooperating fully as he ate. After putting down the bowl, You Mingxu took a tissue and wiped his mouth. He kept his eyes fixed on her.

Just as she finished, she heard him say softly, "Like new."

You Mingxu paused, her heartbeat suddenly quickening. She glanced at him; he was still gazing at her with that deep, intense look.

"How much do you remember?" she asked.

It was back when they had just met—his mouth was always messy, and after she wiped it for him, he had said delightedly, "A Xu's touch makes all the difference. My mouth feels like new now."

Thinking of this, You Mingxu couldn't help but smile.

Yin Feng also smiled, but after a few seconds, his smile faded as he answered, "A lot."

At that, You Mingxu's heart skipped another beat. How much is a lot? she wondered. But given his personality, if he had remembered that line—the one that sealed their relationship—he would have surely brought it up by now, demanding she acknowledge it and pressuring her to comply. So, it seemed he still hadn't recalled it.

But You Mingxu didn't bring it up either. She simply smiled and said, "Now you know how foolish you used to be?"

He replied, "All I know is that even being that foolish, I still managed to win someone over."

What kind of remark was that?
