Coming to Myself

Chapter 229

When the convoy reached the busiest market area and was stuck moving inch by inch, Luo Yu suddenly said, "Get out." He opened the car door. You Mingxu also got out, and he walked over, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, leading her toward a nearby auto repair shop. Out of the corner of her eye, You Mingxu spotted Huang Long, Guo Feirong, and a group of underlings weaving through the crowd, approaching.

Another group of strangers boarded their vehicles, and the cars continued moving forward. Unless one looked closely, no one would notice that the people in the cars had already been replaced.

Even You Mingxu had to admire their swift action and meticulous planning. She knew this was where the secret diversion would take place.

The group scattered inconspicuously and entered the auto repair shop one by one. Passing through the shop, they reached the back, where several SUVs and additional personnel were waiting. Luo Yu pulled You Mingxu into one of the vehicles.

You Mingxu feigned slight panic and asked, "What’s going on?"

Luo Yu replied, "Oh, those cars had some issues. We’re switching to these with better off-road performance." He glanced at her with a smile. "If you’re tired, sleep a bit more. I’ll handle things on the road."

You Mingxu showed a hint of stiffness and fell silent. Satisfied, Luo Yu lit a cigarette and chuckled softly.

"Where are we going?" You Mingxu asked.

Luo Yu answered casually, "Bijie." He reached out and pulled down a black curtain, separating the front and back seats. Then he pressed a button, and curtains descended over the rear windows, completely blocking You Mingxu’s view of the outside.

You Mingxu knew perfectly well they were no longer heading to Bijie, but she still asked, "What are you doing?"

Luo Yu replied, "It’s better for sleeping when it’s dark. Don’t disturb me. Otherwise, I’ll have to deal with you."

You Mingxu bit her lip and eventually stayed silent. As they embarked on this journey, the inherent ruthlessness in this man seemed to be gradually surfacing.

Luo Yu leaned back and closed his eyes for a while before opening them to look at the woman beside him. Her face was slightly pale, likely because she had already sensed something—that their plan was nothing like what she had uncovered. Luo Yu almost laughed aloud; he truly enjoyed seeing her like this.

Just as Xing Jifu had said, watching her wings get clipped.

How wonderful it would be if she could stay by his side, never able to fly away again.

You Mingxu quickly composed herself, silently memorizing the vehicle’s route in her mind. However, the car seemed to take many winding paths, forcing her to give up.

Just as she had sensed, the convoy traveled for a long time along county roads, rural paths, and even unnamed routes, moving in the opposite direction of the decoy convoy. Finally, after two hours, they entered another highway, heading straight for Southeast Guizhou.

You Mingxu also sensed they were on a highway. She glanced at Luo Yu, reached out to lift the curtain, and understood their location. Luo Yu noticed her movement but didn’t stop her, pleased to see her expression shift slightly.

Suddenly, the man leaned in close and whispered in her ear, "Mingxu, you can’t escape now."

You Mingxu pushed him away, her face shifting through several emotions before settling into calm resolve, as if she had made up her mind about something. Luo Yu disliked this look on her—like a righteous guardian, always holding herself above others. On impulse, he spoke, half-seductive, half-threatening, "Don’t you want to see our deal? Be good, and I’ll show you everything, hmm?"

After a moment of silence, You Mingxu smiled instead, a cold glint flashing in her eyes. "Fine."Luo Yu laughed heartily and said, "You Mingxu, you've finally met your match. Now I decide whether you live or die. By the time the police catch up, we'll be long gone. From here on out, you'll do exactly as I say. Don't even think about resisting. Understood?"

You Mingxu seemed to have already guessed his sinister intentions and frame-up tactics. She clenched her jaw and remained silent.

Luo Yu gazed at her with dark, profound eyes. "Now, rub my legs. Give them a good massage. Make me comfortable."

You Mingxu could hardly believe her ears, but he had already kicked off his leather shoes and placed one leg on her thigh, his behavior utterly despicable.

Luo Yu said, "If you don't want to rub my legs, then we can do something else."

You Mingxu grabbed his calf firmly and pinched it hard. His expression shifted, but he let out a strange, almost pleased groan. Disgusted, You Mingxu recoiled. He said, "Keep massaging. Let's see how long you can keep up that pride. Who are you trying to impress?" With that, he moved his foot, deliberately rubbing it against her thigh a few times. A chill ran down You Mingxu's spine. She gripped his foot to prevent him from taking further advantage, her face cold and teeth gritted as she reluctantly massaged his leg.

A sinister smile lingered on Luo Yu's lips, his gaze deep and unsettling.

After a while of this commotion, he put his leg down and put his shoes back on. You Mingxu remained expressionless. He then said, "You Mingxu, I was just teasing you. This is only the beginning."

You Mingxu said nothing.

They finally reached the remote depths of southeastern Guizhou, exiting the highway. The area was mountainous and treacherous, with many places inaccessible by expressways. By now, there were very few vehicles on the road, and the convoy drove silently through the mountains.

They ventured deeper into the wilderness. The farmhouses along the roadside grew sparser, with only the occasional passing car and rural children peering curiously from the roadside.

You Mingxu was in the second vehicle, with another car leading the way ahead.

At that moment, the convoy reached the edge of a farmland. In the distance stood a solitary farmhouse, a parked car, and a large truck stopped by the roadside.

The convoy drove past.

Just then.

The large truck suddenly started and sped out from the roadside, charging recklessly as if intent on a collision. The lead vehicle had no time to evade and was directly rammed off the road, tumbling down the slope several times before coming to a stop. No one climbed out.

The following vehicles swerved frantically to avoid the crash. You Mingxu was thrown forward by the immense force of inertia but was jerked back violently by her seatbelt. Luo Yu experienced the same. Their car screeched to a halt by the roadside, half of its front end hanging over the edge of the road. Luo Yu and several of his men immediately raised their heads and drew their guns. Gunfire had already erupted outside the vehicle.

You Mingxu unbuckled her seatbelt and crouched down, her mind racing: It couldn't be the police—there was no way they would act now. Was it a betrayal from the Yunnan side trying to double-cross them? Or some other enemy?

Just then, she heard Huang Long from another vehicle shout furiously, "It's Xiangtan Lao, damn it! Zhao Lun, I'll curse your ancestors!" He seemed to have recognized someone among the attackers.

Luo Yu fired two shots upward, then grabbed You Mingxu's hand and pulled her close, simultaneously slipping out of the car door while staying low. You Mingxu knew they couldn't stay in the vehicle for long and followed him out. He led her down the slope, hiding in the grass, and glanced at her, saying, "Stay here and don't move."

You Mingxu nodded slightly. He then signaled to several of his men who had also taken cover nearby, waiting for an opportunity to return fire. You Mingxu cautiously raised her head from the bushes and saw at least ten people near the truck and behind the farmhouse exchanging fire with Luo Yu's side. In an instant, three or four of the opponents had fallen, while one or two on this side were also down, not including the several from the crashed vehicle.
