Coming to Myself

Chapter 203

Luo Yu held a gun in his hand, the smell of gunpowder seemingly still lingering in the air. His expression was unreadable in the darkness as he looked at her.

"Take them away," Luo Yu ordered.

Several subordinates stepped forward and swiftly dragged away the two unconscious individuals and the shot Ah Hua.

You Mingxu got out of the car.

Luo Yu watched her.

He smiled: "Darling, I saved your life. How do you plan to repay me?"

You Mingxu thought to herself, It was Yin Feng who saved me. Yet, her face appropriately showed a complex expression, and she avoided mentioning his act of shooting to prevent angering him. She bit her lip and asked, "Why are you here?"

You Mingxu also had doubts. Since Ah Hua and the others were sent by the Kaiyang Group as contacts, they were on the same side as Luo Yu. Why did he shoot and kill them? Could it really be just to save her?

Luo Yu said, "You're so smart, can't you guess what your husband is here for? If it were any other woman in this car, I'd have thrown her into the pond to feed the fish by now. Damn it, but it had to be you. You Mingxu, this debt is on your head. Listen, you didn't see me tonight, and I didn't see you. If I hear even a whisper about this, I'll kill you. Come find me tomorrow at noon, 12 o'clock, at 23 Wenshan Road."

You Mingxu didn't speak or move, watching as they got into the car and sped away.

As soon as they were gone, there was movement in the surrounding grass. Jing Ping and the others emerged. Just as You Mingxu had expected, they had arrived covertly and had likely been observing the situation quietly. You Mingxu immediately ran to the trunk and flung it open. Yin Feng stood up and stepped out of the car. Many people rushed over from behind. Yin Feng looked just as disheveled as she did—covered in dirt, blood on his forehead, multiple abrasions on his face, and a gun in his hand.

Before she could speak, Yin Feng's body leaned toward her, and You Mingxu caught him. In truth, it wasn't that he was unsteady on his feet; rather, his embrace was too sudden and forceful, pressing her entirely into his arms.

No one else made a sound at the scene. You Mingxu let him hold her for a moment before pushing him away and saying, "Alright."

She felt a bit annoyed with herself—why had she spoken to him in such a tone? Was she treating him like the person he used to be?

Yin Feng's gaze was dark and profound.

Earlier, in the dark, jolting trunk, and during that unbearably painful impact, Yin Feng had remembered some things.

He remembered Tibet.

He remembered that weak, terrified Soul, locked in a trunk just like this—filthy, hungry, and afraid.

Then he heard a woman's soft, familiar voice.

...

He crawled out of the sleeping bag and saw those clear eyes, like flowing clouds over the plateau. She took his hand, let him rest his head on her lap, blew a puff of smoke into his face that made him scrunch up his features, and she laughed softly...

A mix of bitterness and sweetness quickly filled his chest. Yin Feng once again felt an overwhelming tenderness, even an urge to gasp softly. He thought, Damn it, so early on, she was already tempting me, pitying me, without even realizing it.

What did it feel like to be pitied by a woman, to be cherished like a favorite? He found himself longing to experience it again. So when the trunk was thrown open and her face appeared before him, revealing an anxious, pitying expression under the moonlight, Yin Feng felt his heart lurch violently. She was so good at giving him sweet rewards, fulfilling his desires so quickly that it made his entire body tremble slightly. Almost unable to restrain himself, Yin Feng pulled her into his embrace, wanting nothing more than to possess her completely.

After being pushed away by her, despite his turbulent emotions, Yin Feng spoke in a calm tone: "You Mingxu, you owe me a life."

You Mingxu thought, You’ve forgotten—I owe you far more than just one life.

But with a push of her hand, she shoved away this tall, human-shaped accessory: "Get off!"

Under the watchful eyes of everyone, Yin Feng refrained from further physical advances. Xu Mengshan, noticing the injuries on both their faces, asked, "Are you okay?"

You Mingxu glanced at Yin Feng, whose forehead was still bleeding, and replied, "I'm fine." She reached into her pocket, pulled out a tissue, and was about to hand it to him when Yin Feng produced a handkerchief from his own pocket and looked at her.

Their gazes fell on the hands each had intended to extend.

Yin Feng suddenly smiled.

You Mingxu turned away and used the tissue to wipe the blood from her own face.

Jing Ping scanned the area around the car and asked, "Did they take everyone away?"

You Mingxu nodded.

Jing Ping said, "There’s something off about this. I’ve already sent a car to follow them. Let’s discuss it back at the station."

It was already late at night.

Back at the police station office, You Mingxu and Yin Feng had their wounds treated briefly. Fortunately, they were only superficial injuries. Yin Feng had two band-aids on his face, while You Mingxu wasn’t much better off, with gauze patches on her arms and knees.

The four of them settled in.

You Mingxu said, "Luo Yu asked me to meet him tomorrow at noon, 12 o’clock, at No. 23 Wen Shan Road. I checked—it’s a relatively private, high-end restaurant."

Yin Feng frowned.

Jing Ping said, "I just spoke with Sister Yun. She’s confessed and is willing to cooperate with the police in exchange for a reduced sentence. She mentioned that she actually met with Ah Hua yesterday. That’s why Ah Hua saw through our identities as soon as he arrived today."

Xu Mengshan remarked, "This Ah Hua is quite a character."

You Mingxu thought, Just as I suspected. The moment Ah Hua saw her, he sensed something was wrong but didn’t show the slightest hint of it. With his experience, he probably knew the room was full of police officers. He went along with the situation, insisting that You Mingxu go with him. The police couldn’t account for every possibility; at the time, they also had to consider the safety of the guests in the hallway. They had no choice but to play along and follow him.

So the route to shake off the police and subdue You Mingxu was something Ah Hua had planned along the way.

No one expected You Mingxu to be so strong—taking on three opponents single-handedly and nearly winning. If not for that final collision and Ah Hua’s luck in picking up the gun, it was hard to say whether they all might have ended up in police custody.

You Mingxu then turned to Yin Feng: "How did you end up in the trunk?"

Jing Ping and Xu Mengshan also looked at him. When the police had moved into action earlier, they realized Yin Feng was missing. They couldn’t reach him by phone, but given the urgency of the situation, they had no time to spare. No one expected him to appear as if out of nowhere, emerging from the trunk.

Yin Feng, however, had no interest in explaining how he had taken shortcuts, climbed rooftops, scrambled and stumbled to get ahead of Ah Hua and his men, then picked the car lock and hidden inside. He said calmly, "How could I let you face danger alone?"You Mingxu stopped questioning him. Xu Mengshan chuckled and said, "Teacher Yin is still quite impressive. Before, he was just sharp-minded, but now his reflexes and physical skills are so agile."

Yin Feng, who now viewed Xu Mengshan favorably, gave a faint smile and said, "I wouldn't call it agile—just barely able to keep up with her."

You Mingxu: "..."

Jing Ping then asked, "Xiao You, why do you think Luo Yu appeared there?"

Yin Feng glanced at him again.

You Mingxu replied, "I don't think he was there to support Ahua."
