Facing Dawn Inn.
Su Changhe looked around the immaculately cleaned room and chuckled. "That Su Muyu, even when he gets a rare chance to live like an ordinary person, he still makes it so hard on himself."
Bai Hehuai set down her medicine chest and sat on a nearby stool. "Perhaps he doesn’t find it hard at all. Maybe he’s actually happy this way."
"You make a fair point. A man as outstanding as our Su Muyu—if you took him home, he’d be gentle and considerate, handle all the housework, and though he might not be much of a money-maker, paired with you, wouldn’t that be a perfect match?" Su Changhe grinned shamelessly.
"Me? All I care about in life is money, and I only like men who can make a fortune," Bai Hehuai retorted, rolling her eyes at him.
"Oh, is that so?" Su Changhe laughed.
Bai Hehuai sighed softly. "Did my father say something strange to you? Do you all think I’m already set on marrying Su Muyu and no one else?"
Su Changhe raised an eyebrow. "Well, is that so?"
"Feelings between a man and a woman shouldn’t be limited to just romance. Maybe during our time together recently, I did develop some affection for Su Muyu, but affection doesn’t necessarily have to turn into love. It can have many outcomes. And someone like Su Muyu—I just don’t think he’d ever fall in love with anyone." Bai Hehuai spoke slowly.
"So sure about that?" Su Changhe pressed.
"When the day comes that the tension in his brows finally eases, then my father can start thinking about matchmaking," Bai Hehuai said with a smile.
"You’re a good woman," Su Changhe nodded lightly.
"Tsk, tsk. Being called a good woman by a scoundrel like you—I don’t know if that’s something to be happy about," Bai Hehuai shrugged.
"Who’s there? Come in!" Su Changhe suddenly flicked his wrist, and the door swung open instantly. A young man dressed in black stood there, looking slightly startled. "As expected of the Dark River Grand Master, to sense my arrival so quickly."
"Who are you?" Su Changhe demanded coldly.
"Shadow Sect, Crow," the man replied, stepping inside with his sword in hand. "I heard the Grand Master had entered the capital and came to pay my respects."
"Where is Su Muyu?" Su Changhe roared. "He arranged to meet me here, so why isn’t he present?"
Bai Hehuai, sitting to the side, silently rolled her eyes in her mind. She wanted to laugh but didn’t dare, so she picked up a teacup and took a sip instead.
Crow smirked. "You want to see Su Muyu?"
"Of course! He is the head of the Su Family, my lifelong best friend. Even if I lose my position as Grand Master, I will never allow Su Muyu to suffer even the slightest harm. If you dare lay a finger on him, I’ll fight you to the death!" Su Changhe clenched his fists.
Crow’s eyes narrowed slightly before he smiled again. "Grand Master, there’s no need for such hostility. Su Muyu is currently a guest at the Shadow Sect’s headquarters, safe and sound. However..."
"However what?" Su Changhe’s brows shot up, and an overwhelming killing intent erupted, causing the doors and windows in the room to rattle as if struck by a fierce wind.
Crow had faced Su Muyu in battle not long ago and had experienced his formidable swordsmanship. But Su Muyu didn’t possess the terrifying killing aura that Su Changhe now exuded. He took a subtle step back. "However, whether he remains a guest, becomes a host… or a prisoner—that depends on the Grand Master’s sincerity.""My sincerity?" Su Changhe sneered coldly. "Testing my sincerity is itself an act of insincerity—and a very dangerous one at that."
Facing Su Changhe's sharp gaze, Crow did not retreat this time. Instead, he took a step forward. "Haven't we always been doing the most dangerous things in this world?"
"That much is true. I admire you for that." Su Changhe withdrew his killing intent and picked up the teacup on the table, taking a sip. "Speak plainly. What do you want me to do?"
"We want The Head to take the Langya King's head." With a wave of Crow's hand, all the doors and windows in the room slammed shut at that moment.
"What?" Su Changhe crushed the teacup in his grip. "Do you have any idea what you're saying?"
"Isn't Dark River capable of killing anyone? I'm simply presenting you with the hardest person in the world to kill." Crow turned away. "No need to give us an answer so quickly. Think it over, and then—"
"And then what?" Su Changhe's voice suddenly turned icy.
Crow froze instantly, a bead of cold sweat rolling down his forehead. He swallowed hard, staring ahead—only Bai Hehuai remained seated alone in front of him. Su Changhe's voice had come from behind him.
Then he felt a faint chill against his neck.
Crow didn't dare turn his head, afraid that if he did, it might simply slide right off his shoulders.
Su Changhe chuckled and sheathed the dagger in his hand. "Relax, I didn't kill you. Don't you still hold Su Muyu's life in your hands? How could I dare kill you?"
"The Head..." Crow's face twitched slightly.
"Get out. Since Su Muyu is your guest, prepare some good food for him. Remember—he can't handle spicy dishes." Su Changhe patted Crow's shoulder and walked back to Bai Hehuai's side.
Bai Hehuai recalled the scene of Su Muyu eating spicy food in Qiantang City and nearly laughed, but quickly suppressed it.
Because Crow still stood there, unmoving.
"Why aren't you leaving? Planning to stay for dinner?" Su Changhe frowned slightly.
"Then I'll take my leave." Crow finally snapped out of it and hurriedly pushed the door open to leave.
Su Changhe smiled and asked Bai Hehuai, "Well? How was my performance just now?"
Bai Hehuai nodded with a smile. "The first half was downright clumsy, but the latter half returned to your true self—nothing short of a stroke of genius. That Crow will surely give a vivid account of what just happened when he returns."
"Hahahaha!" Su Changhe laughed heartily. "Only by mixing truth and falsehood can the truth stand out. But just now, I genuinely wanted to kill him. I almost couldn't resist slicing his head off with one stroke."
Bai Hehuai took a sip of water. "Good thing you held back."
"So be it." Su Changhe sat down. "Let's hope they don't mistreat our little Muyu."
"What about what he proposed? What do you plan to do?" Bai Hehuai frowned slightly. "Though I pay no mind to court affairs, the name 'Langya King' carries far too much weight. The Shadow Sect has been scheming for so long—all to kill him. But if he dies, the world will descend into chaos."
"Naturally, I'll have to meet him." Su Changhe twirled the dagger in his hand lightly. "They say Dark River can kill anyone. I'd like to test just how difficult the hardest person in the world to kill really is."
"Are you insane?" Bai Hehuai exclaimed in shock."I've always been a madman," Su Changhe licked his lips.
