Almost Lover

Chapter 33

Chapter 31: Teng Yi Has a Girlfriend

Teng Hao.

Hao.

White.

White and bright.

So, she guessed the bottom of the cup was plain white, with nothing engraved.

Teng Yi watched her quietly for a long moment before giving her a thumbs-up.

"As expected, you're the top scorer."

"Was I right?"

"You were."

Ruan Yu smiled, about to ask about the reward, but Teng Yi's phone rang. His phone was on the coffee table, half-hidden behind a water glass, yet the caller ID was clearly visible.

Fang Wan.

The warmth in the living room shattered instantly at the sight of those two words.

Ruan Yu abruptly snapped out of the sweetness surrounding her and the emotions wildly growing in her heart.

Right. Teng Yi had a girlfriend.

How could she have forgotten?

Getting close to him, craving his gentleness, and liking him—none of it was allowed.

Seizing the moment while Teng Yi answered the call, Ruan Yu fled upstairs as if escaping.

Teng Hao, who had just solved a high-difficulty math problem, was in a good mood. Seeing Ruan Yu return empty-handed, he didn’t press her, only quipped coldly, "You just went downstairs for water—how did you lose your soul along the way?"

Ruan Yu didn’t answer, her entire being shrouded in disappointment, deflated from head to toe.

She remained listless all evening, only mustering a bit of energy when explaining problems to Teng Hao. The tutoring session ended at nine. As she stepped out of Teng Hao’s room, she saw Teng Yi leaning against the hallway wall, clearly waiting for her.

"Finished?"

"Yeah."

"Let me drive you back." He jingled his car keys. "I need to head back to campus anyway."

He turned and walked toward the staircase.

Ruan Yu stared at his back, rooted to the spot.

Teng Yi walked a few steps before realizing she wasn’t following and turned to look at her.

"What’s wrong?"

"I’m not going back to campus. I have somewhere else to go."

"At this hour?"

He raised his wrist, tapping the watch face with his long fingers.

Ruan Yu noticed his watch—a uniquely crafted piece with a sleek, gear-shaped crown and a brown alligator leather strap, neatly stitched and elegantly textured. Based on her geography knowledge, the dial featured a map of Asia and the Pacific.

She didn’t recognize the logo, but she could tell it was an expensive watch.

This was probably the watch Fang Wan had given him.

"It’s only nine—not late at all," she said.

"Where to? I’ll take you."

"No need." Ruan Yu rushed past him, hurrying downstairs. "I’ll take the bus."

She dashed out the front door, leaving Teng Yi and the brightly lit villa behind. Only then did her tense nerves relax. Staying far away was the only way to save herself.

As soon as she reached the bus stop, Teng Yi’s sapphire-blue sports car zoomed past. The Maserati’s top was down, and he sat in the driver’s seat in all black, one hand on the steering wheel, his short dreadlocks swaying in the wind.

"So cool," a few girls at the bus stop murmured, quickly recording a video to send to their friends.

Ruan Yu’s gaze followed the car as it disappeared into the distance.

Yeah. So cool.

If it were just superficial coolness, it wouldn’t matter. But he had to pair that dazzling exterior with such a gentle soul.

Someone like that—how easy it was to fall for him.
