Chapter 111: The Red Carpet
Teng Hao was also dressed in a formal black suit.
This was the first time the brothers had appeared together in public. Although neither was a public figure, their appearance still drew countless photographers.
Walking one after the other—one with a warm smile, the other with a cool, composed expression—they became an unconventional sight on the red carpet.
Ruan Yu shifted her gaze away from them. She cooperated with Wei Liao in interviewing Luo Sheng briefly before seeing him off, then waited quietly in place.
"Next, approaching us are the founders of DT Group, Mr. Teng Yi and Mr. Teng Hao. Though they are entrepreneurs, they have previously appeared on interview programs, so viewers who have seen them before will surely find them familiar—two exceptionally handsome gentlemen... Please, this way."
As Wei Liao finished speaking, Teng Yi and Teng Hao had already positioned themselves between them—Teng Hao closer to Wei Liao, Teng Yi closer to Ruan Yu—so close their hands nearly brushed.
Ruan Yu blacked out when she drank, so she didn’t remember what had happened that night or how she had drunkenly collapsed into Teng Yi’s arms in tears. The only thing she recalled was his farewell words—that he would never dance again.
"You two must be familiar with our host, Ruan Yu, right?"
Wei Liao handed the microphone to Teng Hao first.
"Of course, we’re old friends with Host Ruan. We even recorded a show together," Teng Hao said.
"Did anything interesting happen during the recording?"
"The whole day was fun. Host Ruan herself is an interesting person."
Ruan Yu smiled. This kid, Teng Hao, actually knew how to save face for her in public.
"I’ve heard that both of you brothers are quite low-key. Why did you agree to participate in the show as soon as you returned to the country?" Wei Liao, noticing Teng Yi had yet to speak, turned his attention to him.
Ruan Yu naturally passed the microphone to Teng Yi.
Her bare arm brushed against the cool fabric of his suit.
"We accepted the show’s invitation mainly because DT has just returned to China for development. We hoped the program’s visibility would help more people learn about DT."
"And what about tonight’s charity gala?"
"Charity has no ulterior motives."
A concise and flawless answer.
"Well said—'charity has no ulterior motives.' Thank you, Mr. Teng Yi and Mr. Teng Hao. Please proceed to the venue." Wei Liao gestured politely.
The two brothers nodded to everyone present. Throughout the entire exchange, Teng Yi didn’t spare Ruan Yu a single glance, and she maintained a courteous, professional "oversight" of him. Just as they were about to pass each other, however, the cufflink on Teng Yi’s suit suddenly caught on the tassels of Ruan Yu’s dress.
Unaware, Teng Yi took two steps before the slight tug stopped him.
A red tassel string stretched between them, leaving both momentarily stunned.
"Whoa, what’s this? 'The lotus root snaps but its fibers stay joined'?" Wei Liao joked, trying to lighten the mood.
Though the speaker meant no harm, the listener took it to heart—Ruan Yu’s face instantly burned.
From the crowd of reporters, someone shouted, "Not that—it’s 'fate ties two hearts with a single red thread!'"
All the staff and reporters burst into laughter.
Ruan Yu hurriedly untangled the tassel binding them and forced composure into her voice as she spoke into the microphone, "Please, no jokes. What if Mr. Teng has a girlfriend who might get jealous?"
"Then let’s take this chance to satisfy everyone’s curiosity—does Mr. Teng have a girlfriend?" Wei Liao turned the microphone back to Teng Yi.
Teng Yi silently glanced at Ruan Yu before his deep voice carried through the microphone to the crowd."I'm single."
The laughter in the room grew even louder.
